CALLING ALL CHICAGO ARTISTS!! It's that time to start saving those scraps again! The 2026 Art On Cardboard Show is coming up on November 20th. Curated by the Pocius brothers MIKE and AL (AKA the Birdhouse Museum of Bridgeport) the show is open for submissions!⁠
⁠
Bring your pieces to the studio at 1200 W. 35th on the 4th Floor at Project Onward on Saturday, November 7th between 12-5 to participate!⁠
⁠
All submissions must follow the following requirements:⁠
⁠
1) Art must be on cardboard⁠
⁠
⁠2) Maximum size of 16X20 inches or smaller⁠
⁠
⁠3) Individual art ONLY (No groups please)⁠
⁠
⁠4)All art is unframed and priced at $100 or less (50% of proceeds from the sale will go to Project Onward)⁠
⁠
⁠5) Maximum of 3 pieces of art per artist⁠
⁠
6) Art must be dropped off AND picked up in person.⁠
⁠
7) Pick up is on December 5th between 11AM-5PM. ⁠
⁠
8) We are not responsible for any art sent in mail and we cannot guarantee it will be accepted into the show.⁠
⁠
9)Must be 18 years or older to enter⁠
⁠
Gala opening will be on Friday, November 20th from 6-9:30PM at Project Onward! Bring your friends! Bring your family! Bring everyone you can think of and tell them to invite everyone!⁠

Get ready for a night that's gonna leave a mark! Join us at Project Onward on Friday, October 16 from 5:00PM-10:00PM for a very special celebration of Forever Yours, featuring artwork by Project Onward artists inspired by the timeless art of tattooing.⁠

The night gets even more exciting as live tattoo artists from @decoraterstattoo join us in the studio, bringing designs from the exhibition to life and offering tattoos inspired by the artwork on the walls. All tattoo proceeds will be donated to Project Onward. See the original flash sheets, check out the artists’ unique takes on tattoo culture, and experience the creative process up close.⁠

Opening this Friday, September 18th at 6:00PM at Project Onward, Forever Yours celebrates tattooing through the artwork of multiple Project Onward artists including Ken Bortman, Ruby Bradford, Bill Douglas, Adam Hines, Fernando Ramirez, Lainey Sears, Noon Slaps, Luke Shemroske, and Alita Van Hee. Through drawings, paintings, and mixed-media experiments, they explore some of the imagery and techniques of this timeless art form. The artists have also lent their distinctive styles to original, specially-designed flash sheets.⁠

The exhibit opens Friday, September 18th from 6PM-10PM and is available to view through Saturday November 7th.⁠

Last Friday we welcomed delegates from Osaka, Japan, to Project Onward as part of the Chicago-Osaka Sister City Social Service Exchange ( @chisistercities @cscicossx @japanese_culture_center )!⁠
⁠
The visiting group included social work professionals, some of whom work in the disability field. Their visit offered a great opportunity to share our work, learn from one another, and have some fun through making paper cranes.⁠
⁠
Together with our artists, the delegates took part in a paper crane-making workshop inspired by the Cranes for Peace project, creating a space for conversation and cultural exchange. We also shared our artists work and had some time to talk about our international collaboration with our friends in Osaka at Atelier Corners ( @atelier_corners ) from a few months ago.⁠

Thank you to the Osaka Social Services Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International for including Project Onward in this exchange and for helping build connections between our communities across the world!⁠

Our opening of Forever Yours was a blast last Friday! We want to give a huge thank you to the fine folks of @decoraterstattoo for creating the flash mural in our gallery. Here's a look at some select pieces from the show alongside the timelapse of the mural getting painted.⁠

If you missed the opening don't fret! Next month on October 16th from 5-10PM, Decorators will be in the gallery again, set up and ready to tattoo these works from our artists. More details coming soon!⁠

Andersonville Arts Weekend × Project Onward

We’re excited to welcome Project Onward to Minyoli this Sunday, September 27, 11AM–2PM, during our brunch service!

Project Onward is a Chicago-based nonprofit studio and gallery that provides free studio space, art materials, mentorship, and professional opportunities to more than 50 artists whose lives are impacted by mental and developmental disabilities.

They’ll be joining us for a special pop-up shop on our patio, bringing the work of local artists to Andersonville Arts Weekend. ❤️

Come support local artists and small businesses, enjoy some Taiwanese breakfast favorites, and spend your Sunday surrounded by art and community.
