Back in February, we started growing indoors on a Gardyn system 🌱

From collard greens to cherry tomatoes, basil, mint, and mini cauliflower… we’ve learned so much along the way. Some things failed. Some things flourished. But we kept growing. 💚

Now, thanks to Seattle Pride 🌈, Project Roots is giving indoor garden systems to LGBTQ+ families in the Seattle area.

🥬 Fresh food shouldn't be a luxury. It should be accessible to every community. At Project Roots, we know that healthy food access is about more than what's available at the grocery store. It's about creating opportunities for individuals and families to obtain nutritious food. Through our Produce for All program and food rescue initiatives with our partner Be Fruitful, we work to connect fresh produce with communities while helping reduce unnecessary food waste. 🍊 Rescuing produce that might otherwise go to waste 🥬 Supporting fresh food distribution 🤝 Building partnerships that strengthen food access 💚 Bringing communities together through service Every effort brings us closer to a future where more families have access to fresh, nutritious food. Yesterday, we told you that Project Roots is about much more than one type of garden. Today, we want to introduce you to one of the programs at the heart of our work. 🌱 Growing Minds, Growing Gardens Through this program, Project Roots works with schools to bring hands-on garden education directly to students. Using Tower Garden systems and other growing experiences, students have opportunities to learn about: 🌿 How food grows 💧 Hydroponic growing systems 🌱 Planting and caring for seedlings 🥬 Nutrition and fresh food 🌎 Sustainability 🤝 Working together to care for something they helped grow But the garden itself is only part of the story. We want students to understand that fresh food doesn’t simply appear on a grocery store shelf. They can learn how to grow it, care for it, harvest it, and understand the role food plays in the health of their families and communities. And we’re still growing. Project Roots is continuing to work with schools, educators, partners, and funders to expand these opportunities to even more students. Because when we teach a young person how to grow food, we’re planting knowledge they can carry long after the harvest. 💚 Follow along this month as we show you more of what Growing Minds, Growing Gardens looks like in action. #ProjectRoots #GrowingMindsGrowingGardens #SchoolGardens #GardenEducation #FoodEducation by @projectrootsinc

We’ve been quiet, but we definitely haven’t been still. 🌱 And if you’ve followed Project Roots for a while, we want you to know something important: Our work has never been limited to indoor Tower Gardens. Project Roots is about helping communities grow — in all the ways that may look. We’ve had the opportunity to support Arizona schools as they create gardens, plant trees, raise resources for outdoor growing spaces, and give students opportunities to put their hands in the soil and learn where food and healthy communities begin. Sometimes that looks like a Tower Garden inside a classroom. Sometimes it looks like a student planting outside on their school campus. Sometimes it means helping a school find the resources to make a project possible. And increasingly, it also means advocating for more opportunities for schools and communities to have access to gardens, green spaces, food education, and the resources needed to sustain them. There is so much happening at Project Roots that we simply haven't been sharing enough of it. That changes this month. 🌱 Throughout October, we’re bringing you back into the work — sharing the programs, schools, partnerships, people, advocacy, and plans that are helping Project Roots continue to grow. Because for us, it has never been about one type of garden. It’s about planting something today that can change a community tomorrow. 💚 Follow along this month. We have a LOT to share. #ProjectRoots #GrowingMindsGrowingGardens #SchoolGardens #GardenEducation #FoodAccess by @projectrootsinc

This is what growing food differently can look like. 🥬🌱

Tower Gardens create opportunities to grow fresh produce vertically, making them a great tool for schools, community spaces, and hands-on food education.

At Project Roots, we use garden-based learning to help people better understand where food comes from, how it grows, and how growing food can become part of building healthier, more food-secure communities.

Because access to fresh food matters — but so does the knowledge to grow it. 💚
