What an honor to be featured in the Draugas magazine, not once, but twice this summer! 🥹🇱🇹

So proud to see the story of our Šaknys project and all the incredible work of our participants shared with the Lithuanian community.

Standing in front of the “Little Lithuania” sign, we’re reminded of the generations of Lithuanians who once built their lives here.

From August 8–16, our Šaknys group had the honor of caring for the graves of those who called this region home. Cleaning, restoring, and preserving pieces of their stories that are still here today.

These aren’t just old cemeteries. They are the final resting places of the people who helped build Lithuanian communities across America.

We’re grateful to have spent this week giving something back to the people who came before our grandparents, parents and us taken in Pennsylvania by @projectsaknys

Today, our participants had the chance to step into the history of the Lithuanian diaspora, seeing firsthand the coal mining region and the conditions that shaped the lives of generations before us.

Tomorrow, the real work begins.

Hands in the dirt. Brushes on the stones. History brought back to life.

We’re ready!

A lot can happen in just one week.
You can meet strangers who quickly become friends, friends who start to feel like family, and people you know you’ll miss the moment you all go home.
I almost forgot this was the whole point. 🤍 by @projectsaknys
