🕊️ I have a confession to make 🕊️.Shortly after our first Museum of Black Futures event I was contacted by the Fathers of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. Back in the colonial days, they took hundreds of ceremonial artifacts from the African people they converted to Catholicism, on their mission of spreading 'good news' to 'the poor’. This collection forms the basis for the Africa Museum that they founded in 1954, here in the Netherlands. A collection and a building that they hold to this day. Conflict with the organization that researched and managed the collection - making exhibitions and events - led to the closure of the Africa Museum. Now they invited @roscovitsch and I to contribute to a 'future Africa Museum'. In stead, last Saturday @iamkimmysmit , @nelgina_ , @junadry_leocaria , @femidawkins , Roche, Marcellino and I demanded that our Museum of Black Futures team be given full authority in shaping the future of their collection, organization and building. We want ownership! And yes, we recorded the conversation! The podcast will be released very shortly!! Voorafgaand aan de opnames van hun podcastaflevering verplaatsen @adrian_diff_van_wyk en @lazeefuik hun conversatie nog eenmaal van Simone’s bank en eettafel naar een publieke locatie. Natuurlijk never zomaar een locatie: Eén van hun lievelingsspots, om de hoek van waar hun gesprek tijdens het @iffr van 2023 begon: HipHopHuis . Tijdens deze Rotterdamse GembertheeSessies, een samenwerking tussen @hiphophuis en @bijlmerparktheater , bespreken ze de film What the Soil Remembers. Van filmrecensies tot ‘recoded archives’ en poëzie, van standbeelden tot de manieren waarop Zwarte mensen en NBPOCs Nederlands en Afrikaans opnieuw uitvinden… Kijkend naar hun inboxen vol voicenotes, denken ze aan een podcast-aflevering. Voordat ze deze tijdens een aantal roadtrips en keukentafelconversaties op zullen nemen, treffen ze elkaar in het @bijlmerparktheater voor de eerste GembertheeSessies van 2024. Op do. 29 februari interviewt Simone filmmaker, researcher, producent en cultureel historicus Adrian Van Wyk over zijn werk. Van Wyk opent de sessie met een screening van What the Soil Remembers. Deze korte docu werd geregisseerd door @joseokapi en won in 2023 tijdens @iffr een Ammodo Tiger Short Award. Als onderdeel van het @azaniarizing -collectief uit Kaapstad, was Adrian Van Wyk researcher en producent van de film. Simone vroeg drie mensen om een korte recensie over What @thesoilremembers te schrijven en de eerste daarvan staat online. In today’s society full of failing systems and contradicting ways of seeing the world, we ask ourselves: What tools do we have and can we offer as creative community to deconstruct, rethink, remake and repair what is so broken in our societies? Vanavond presenteren we onze ideeën voor een nieuw museum project in Nederland: THE MUSEUM OF BLACK FUTURES. Maar wat is een ‘museum’ eigenlijk in 2023? Wat betekent het om Zwartheid te centreren in een Europese organisatie? En hoe verzamel je een collectie van Black futures? .We gaan er een gezellige avond van maken. Scherp maar easy going. Locatie?
