39th lap around the sun

Surprising my parents with an unannounced visit for my 39th lap around the sun felt like the thing to do. As I reflect back on 38 previous years, it seems like that entire time has passed in a literal blink of an eye. Looking back on my life, it has been one incredible ride, sponsored, crafted, and created by the two best parents that anyone could ask for.

Hockey, mountain biking, BMX, snowboarding, skiing, gymnastics, soccer, sailing, swimming (bronze cross, star, medalian & teaching certification), camping across North America, exciting vacations, U17 Team Canada (Team Western), built a house, festivals, volunteer fire fighting, electrican, boxing, muay thai, Brazilian Jujitsu, canoing, The Sedona trip, University, just some of the amazing things I have been blessed to have experienced.

As so much change and uncertainty are ahead of all of us, having these memories and experiences will always ground myself and place a massive smile on my face. Life is but a ride, and I will do everything in my power to experience life to its fullest.

Sedona AZ; Proks & @housemusicmal descended upon Sedona for an incredible once in a lifetime trip. Coming out of the gate, Mal forgot his drivers license and mine had just expired... and we still managed to acquire the rental, waking up to some of the worlds most majestic scenery, traveling to the Grand Canyon, biking hiking and climbing up a small mountain for an epic night of dancing to our rave music and watching the stars, then flying back home in the pitch black, to hitting two of the most gnarly lines I have ever been on. The trip for myself was a trip down memory lane as mother & father took the family down to Sedona a long time ago for a camping excursion. It was incredible to see how some parts of Sedona remained unchanged while the newer developments were required to maintain the elegance and beauty of Sedona. Did we go scale up the famous Sedona Bell Rock - ABSOLUTELY! How could we turn down visiting the world famous energy vortex? The trip was filled with nothing but the best times, hysterical laughter, and unforgettable memories, to the point, I honestly didn't want to come home and even debated selling the lakehouse for property down there. The 2 epic lines were "Hiline" & "Hangover"... we thought "Hiline" was insane...then we hit "Hangover"... that was the most epic, gnarly and straight up dangerous trail by far. Every single person we passed either stared in disbelief, or commented "you guys are insane, or I/we don't know how you guys do it."

I was a last minute addition to the trip as one of Mal's friends received and injury and had to back out last minute... which then left Mal wondering how this trip was going to happen. Fortunately, our wonderful friend @jenn.bean91 had strongly encouraged Mal to reach out to me... as I playfully assume she stated something along the lines of "I'm 100% positive Beau would love nothing more than to risk his life out of country on a mountain bike with you.

The Treck

In April, we unfortunately lost grandma. She was close to reaching her 102nd Birthday, and with her passing a door to the old country, the old ways and the direct connection to the first Prokopetz's who not only landed, but helped to establish the community, a church and the established roots of the family that settled in Manitoba were lost.

I flew out to celebrate her life, my birthday, and then to make a straight shot drive from mom & dad's in Winnipeg to the lakehouse in Halifax.

With my limited time in Winnipeg I made sure to take a stroll down memory lane, we start off with the plow, from my understanding I believe this is the first plow a side of the family owned, I take a sense of pride not only seeing it in mom and dad's front yard, but to be able to physically hold a piece of our families heritage means something to me. From there, I took a stroll into Kings Park, I walked the old trails we would take on our bikes when we were kids. It's always fun to remember the park and to see how it has changed over the years.

The trip itself
I set a new personal record, the trip door to door was 3612km, in which I went door to door in 33 straight hours, I had initially planned to stop just outside of Quebec City, but once I saw the sign that stated New Brunswick was just ahead, I chose to push forward as I was filled with excitment that the trip was reaching it's final leg.

I took the same route I would take when I first went out East to Bathurst to pursue my hockey career. by @proks24

November Garlic Edition;

Mom and Dad came out this fall and had graciously supplied me with an assortment of different garlic heads/cloves to be planted. The total came to a whopping 69 cloves, which took up the entirety of a raised bed. Mom & Dad had stopped at 2 different farmers markets in the Toronto area as well as 2 local farmers markets in and around the Halifax area.

Prepped the garden bed
Dug the holes (about 4 inches deep) and 6 inches apart
Covered the garlic
Placed a few inches of organic straw (help retain moisture)

Now we wait and see what grows! I'm excited about the elephant garlic, wondering how large that bad boy will grow to be.

Lakehouse outdoor cooking

Chicken Fricot accompanied by fire baked sourdough rolls.

[Dish Facts] Chicken Fricot is a classic Acadian dish. Fricot has its origins in 18th century France, where it was used to mean a feast.

On today's cooking adventure, the sourdough was placed a tad too close to the fire (initially), which did crisp one of the rolls. I then pulled some embers out of the fire and created a smaller cooking area for the sourdough. Despite the bottom being a tad crisp, the insides of the rolls were perfection!

Mountain Biking Trip of a Lifetime!!!

To tell this tall tale, we must go back to the beginning.....

This trip was and is 100% due to the rave scene and, more importantly, my Rave Family.

About 1.5 years ago, I was invited to a private & secret "Butcher Shop Rave", it was here at this event that I was able to meet and connect with some wonderful people. One of which happened to be @housemusicmal. We immediately formed a strong connection as we both love the same styles of rave music, and we both love mountain biking.

Mal and his friend had this once in a lifetime trip planned, organized, and booked. Unfortunately, at the last minute, his friend had to back out. With the trip hanging in the balance, Mal was unsure of what to do. Out of sheer luck, happenstance, coincidence or by some higher power, Mal and our wonderful friend @jenn.bean91 were having a conversation, In which Mal had voiced his absolute dissapointment in the fact this trip now seamed dead in the water. It was then @jenn.bean91 had informed Mal that I, the thrill seeking fool that I happen to be (lol), would realistically love nothing more than to risk his life bombing down mountains, out of country with a dear friend. He took her advice, reached out, and asked.

For myself, 7 years prior, I unfortunately missed out on an out of province biking adventure, and I had thought I would never have the ability to go on such a trip again... when this was presented to me, I immediately stated I didn't care what the cost was going to be, "I'm in."

About 23 years earlier, I was on a camping vacation with my family, and one of the places we stopped and camped for a while was Sedona..... coming back to this beautiful town literally dropped me to a knee. To be able to come back to a place I went to previously, to now bike some of the trails I had walked with a friend made me feel like a kid all over again. Coming back home was one of the hardest things to do... I still debate selling everything and moving there.

This specific trail (Hangover) is by far the most gnarly trail I have ever been on, a true professional double black diamond trail.

"I am the Wolf who watches over his pack" - Proks

On the journey of self-improvement, one of the lessons was to create a personal quote that you felt was an honest and accurate representation of whom you truly are (your authentic self). During this time, after the sessions and readings, I would spend my time in the canoe and/or in the woods reflecting on the current & previous lessons. One night, as the sun was setting and the moon and stars began their dance, I was thinking joyfully about the animal I truly love and have the utmost appreciation for.... the Wolf. It was then that this quote seemingly materialized for myself.

This quote is two-fold; It is a reminder to myself, of whom I am, what I am capable of, and to never lose my heart, for true friends and family are by far the most precious, and scarce aspects of life, for these individuals give life meaning.

The second point and realistically the more important part is this;

I have lost too many people, to many of "my pack" to su!c!de, I want each of you whom read this to remember;

You are important to me
I love you
I want you here
This to shall pass

Never be afraid or ashamed to reach out to me if you are struggling. I love you
