INSIGHT: Proleta Re Art hasn’t just arrived—it’s hacked its way into the spotlight, rewriting the rules in their ascendancy. The brainchild of designer and craftsman Prot and embroidery artist Eri, this duo transforms denim garments into one-of-a-kind art objects through meticulous, almost obsessive reworking. As the word “art” in their name suggests, each piece they produce is more than just clothing—it’s a wearable sculpture, embodying their belief that fashion can transcend utility and become something deeply expressive. In direct opposition to mass production and fast fashion, they dedicate themselves to one customer, one garment at a time—pouring their hard-won skills into every stitch. To wear Proleta Re Art is to wear a piece of their soul. Having launched their brand only a few years ago with nothing more than an Instagram post, they’ve quickly captured international attention. In fact, since Yuta Hosokawa’s Readymade and Saint Mxxxxxx (Saint Michael) emerged in the late 2010s, no other Japanese label has sparked a global buzz quite like they have. From world-class rappers to elite athletes, Proleta Re Art has captivated fashion insiders with their radical approach. We sat down with Prot to talk about their origin story, the philosophy behind their so-called “hacking” process, and why they choose to do things entirely their own way.Read the full story via the link in our bio.Photography: @jirokonami by @proletareart

In May 2021, shortly after I started PROLETA RE ART, I received a message from Matteo, Creative Director of Clarks Originals, requesting a collaboration.I've been a fan of the Wallabee, Desert Trek, Desert Boot styles, and more since I was a student, so it was a surprising offer for me, who had just launched my own brand.Soon after, I was invited to their Aoyama office, where we discussed the possibility of experimentally creating a UROBOROS Wallabee as an art piece. As we made numerous prototypes and revisions, I was busy with custom-made work, and ended up keeping them waiting for a very long time.Despite a number of challenges, including illness and poor health for myself and my family, Matteo and his team, including Mr. Maeda, understood and respected all of my circumstances, and patiently supported me until the project was completed. After about five years of work, the UROBOROS Wallabee was finally completed.I wore these shoes throughout my business trips to Europe and Morocco. With their incredibly lightweight design and foot-hugging shape, the Wallabee provided comfortable support for my feet, whether on the cobblestone streets of Paris or the rough roads of Morocco in heavy rain.I'm pleased to finally be able to unveil these experimental Wallabees. The Wallabee is a shoe that carries the memory of humanity’s earliest footwear, rooted in moccasin boots from extreme cold regions.Under the concept of UROBOROS — the serpent that devours its own tail, symbolizing the end, the beginning, and the cycle of life — I have brought it back into the present.

Thank you@tokyoweekender Check out the interview via the link in my bio.・・・Fashion literacy is hard to prove in an age where niche brands and underground references are no longer gatekept. It’s not enough now to flaunt the logos and queue for the drops; if anything, wearing something worn-in and elusive, something that evokes immediate curiosity, has become the ultimate flex. This is exactly the zeitgeist Proleta Re Art [@proletareart] appeals to.Meticulously customized and entirely singular, each garment is more like a collectible to keep in your wardrobe forever, with steep prices to match: One jacket can cost up to $18,000 or more. There’s an undeniable irony in a brand paying homage to the working class producing garments that cost thousands of dollars. But for the designer behind this sensation, who goes by the alias “Prot,”the name is less about the consumer and more about the sanctity of the craft itself — a multistep procedure that can take up to 300 hours for a single piece.“I take old clothes, rags and vintage materials that have finished their ‘labor’ as garments, and reincarnate them through exhaustive repair, customization and vintage processing.”This story appeared in Tokyo Weekender Vol. 1 - 2026.Read the full article at our link in bio.✍️ @eugenieshin 📸 @lisaellenknight #tokyoweekender by @proletareart
