If you are looking for a brunch spot that's not basic... this is IT!

One of my favorite thing to do on the weekend is a brunch date; slow mornings, savoring good food, different location, same husband... you get the idea 😄

Cafe Noricha is our newest find, and it'a one to save. Cute, trendy, playful vibes with a menu that blends Asian fare (Japanese, Indonesian, Korean touches) and Western flavors.

And of course, the drinks are just as cute as they are delicious.

But this isn’t fear. It’s my need for space,
not to disappear, but to process, observe, and make sense of everything unfolding around me.

I don't retreat to escape. I need distance to think, to let emotion settle into understanding.

Yesterday’s snowstorm came with a travel warning, which worked out perfectly because I wanted to finish this book anyway. Staying in felt like the right excuse to slow down and read without rushing.

A coworker recommended this one to me (blurb is in the comment section), and I’m glad I followed her suggestion. I’m enjoying the writing style and the way the story builds mood and tension. It feels thoughtful and unsettling in a subtle way.

The story centers around the mysterious disappearance of Lucy, a mother of a newly born daughter. So far that part hasn’t moved much. Right now it reads more like literary fiction than a straight thriller, but I’m still hoping things will turn darker and more suspense toward the end.

Q: Is it easier to live with unanswered questions than with answers you don’t want?

I still choose answers, even the painful ones.
At least they let me move forward instead of wondering. Clarity, even when it's difficult, is easier to carry than unanswered questions. by @proseandplate

STARLING HOUSE
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

If I were to describe Starling House, I’d say it’s a mix of Beauty and the Beast retelling and Stranger Things. But what stayed with me is how deeply the author explore the theme about survival and restraint.

Having her mother died when she was young, Opal learns that wanting too much leads to big losses. So she builds her life around practicality and caring for her brother. Arthur survives differently; through duty, silence, and guarding a house that has taken so much from him.

Opal and Arthur are shaped by the same belief that wanting more comes with consequences. Their connection is quiet and restraint, built on pauses and things that is unsaid. And the house reflects all that weight very well, with guilt and pain that is passed from previous generations.

I loved how honest the book is about longing. Even when both characters try to move forward, wanting doesn’t vanish. It lingers. Healing here isn’t about erasing the past. It’s learning how not to be consumed by it.

Starling House is sad, thoughtful, and quietly haunting, especially for readers who’ve learned to quiet their own longing and convince themselves it’s enough.

The prose is simple, easy to follow, and the plot feels pretty straightforward, and yet I can’t shake the feeling that I’m missing something.

So far, there aren’t many jump scares. For me, the horror comes from the uneasy feeling;
from the tension in the marriage, and the quiet, unsettling dynamic between Emily and her husband, Freddie.

It’s the kind of book that makes my mind asking uncomfortable questions…
and then sitting patiently, waiting for the answers.

Winter break went by so quickly, it’s hard to believe it’s already over. I hope everyone found a moment to rest, breathe, and maybe read something comforting.

I’ve never been big on New Year’s resolutions.
The season feels more like a pause than a restart; a moment to take inventory of what stayed, and what quietly slipped past me.

2025 taught me how to be brave with my feelings.
How to speak honestly,
let go of the version of myself
that no longer fits,
and stop apologizing for choosing myself.

Some connections changed me.
Some mattered more
than they were ever meant to last.
And some were never meant to be broken,
only held gently.
I’m carrying forward clarity, not bitterness.
Respect, not regret.
And the understanding that loving someone
doesn’t mean asking them
to choose differently.
Sometimes it means wishing them peace.

I’m moving on gently,
rooted in who I am,
and still wishing happiness where it belongs,
even when it costs me something.
