Same diagnosis. Different decisions.
Two men can hear the same four words “you have prostate cancer” and make very different treatment choices.
One may choose surgery. Another may choose focal therapy. Others may choose radiotherapy or active surveillance.
The important word is choice.
Because the right treatment decision isn’t the same for every man. It depends on the cancer, the individual, what treatments are suitable — and what matters to him.
At Prost8, we’re not here to tell men which treatment to choose.
We want to make sure they know the choices available to them.
💙 Know your diagnosis. Understand your options. Make the decision that’s right for you.

Finding prostate cancer earlier can change what happens next.

When cancer is found while it is still localised, there may be more treatment options available — and more opportunity to consider treatments that protect quality of life as well as treat the cancer.

For some men, that could include active surveillance. For others, it may mean minimally invasive focal treatments such as HIFU, cryotherapy or NanoKnife. And for some, surgery or radiotherapy will still be the most appropriate choice.

But as prostate cancer progresses, those choices can become more limited and more extensive treatment may be needed.

That’s why early detection matters.

At Prost8, we believe men should be diagnosed early and given clear information about all the appropriate treatment options available to them.

This could be as simple as a PSA blood test.

Because finding prostate cancer is only the first step. For more information on PSA testing visit prost8.org.uk/PSA (in partnership with The Graham Fulford Charitable Trust)

Find it earlier. Know your choices. Protect your future.

Focal therapy is having a moment…..

….and perhaps, after many years of being relatively unknown outside specialist circles, something is beginning to change.

Three high-profile men. Three prostate cancer diagnosis. Three men who chose focal treatment.

💙 The spotlight: Lord David Cameron's experience brought focal therapy and its potential quality-of-life benefits to a much wider public audience.

💙 The advocate: In December 2025, Prost8 helped Lord Graham Brady access focal treatment following his prostate cancer diagnosis. Today, he is a vocal Patron of Prost8, using his own experience to help champion greater awareness, access and choice for other men.

💙 The conversation: Jeremy Clarkson's decision to speak publicly about his prostate cancer and HIFU treatment has put focal therapy in front of an enormous audience — and has literally thousands more men talking about prostate cancer, early diagnosis and all treatment choices.

And there's more.

The Government has now committed up to £2.8 million to strengthen and expand focal therapy provision in England.

Put all of that together and it feels like a significant moment.

But attention isn't the same as access.

A man cannot benefit from a treatment he isn't told about — or will not realistically access because of where he lives.

That's where Prost8's work continues.

We don't believe focal therapy is right for every man. We believe every suitable man should know it may be an option and have a fair opportunity to access it.

The evidence is growing.
The attention is here.
The opportunity is here.

Now, let's turn that attention into awareness and accessibility. 💙

A huge thank you and well done to Russell Jefferies for completing the highly challenging French Alps ‘Classic Cols’ cycle ride in support of prost8.

An amazing achievement in itself and Russell chose the two year anniversary of completing his treatment to mark the occasion.

This challenge involved Russell cycling 9 Cols (mountains in layman terms) in 6 days with the key stats being:
7 nights / 6 days cycling covering 254 miles with a total combined elevation of a staggering 31800 ft (mount Everest is 29,000 ft to give some proportion)

Russell also managed to exceed his £1000 fundraising target to help more men receive better outcomes after prostate cancer. His JustGiving page is still open so please do donate - lets see if we can double his target https://www.justgiving.com/page/russ-jefferies-5?

Well done Russell for an amazing achievement and so proud to have you on the Prost8 team 💙

The Government has committed up to £2.8 million* in capital funding to strengthen and expand focal therapy treatment provision for prostate cancer in England.

Initial funding is expected to help existing focal therapy centres expand their services, with potential future expansion to new sites also being considered.

Importantly, the Government has said that geographical inequalities in access will be considered.

That matters.

Because a man can be clinically suitable for a minimally invasive treatment such as HIFU or cryotherapy — yet accessing it can still depend heavily on where he happens to live.

Currently, NHS hospitals offering focal treatments are still biased towards London and the South, with the furthest North being the new centre in Northampton. This still leaves the majority of men in England unable to access focal treatment without considerable travelling.

At Prost8, we’ve been working to change that by encouraging expansion of NHS focal therapy provision into areas where access is limited. We are working with hospitals across the country to bring these lifestyle saving treatments closer to the men who need them.

And we are even close to expansion into Wales and Scotland, where there is currently no focal treatment provision at all.

So we warmly welcome this investment and hope that those who will make the final decisions on locations look at the picture over the entire country and not just take the easy option and boost current facilities.

The evidence for focal therapy has moved forward. Recognition and demand is growing. Now we need to make sure access moves forward too.

💙 Where a man lives shouldn’t limit his prostate cancer treatment choices.

Could some men with prostate cancer eventually avoid having a biopsy?

New UK research* suggests that, in carefully selected cases where MRI findings are particularly convincing, it may one day be possible to diagnose clinically significant prostate cancer without first carrying out a biopsy.

We’re not there yet. Biopsy remains an important part of today’s prostate cancer diagnostic pathway.

But perhaps the most interesting thing is the direction prostate cancer care is travelling.

💙 Better imaging
💙 Better targeting
💙 Fewer unnecessary procedures
💙 More personalised treatment

It’s a direction that strongly reflects what we believe at Prost8.

Progress shouldn’t only mean getting better at finding and treating prostate cancer. It should also mean reducing the unnecessary impact of diagnosis and treatment on the man himself.

More precision. Less intervention. Better outcomes.

Prostate cancer treatment continues to move forward.

Research reported by the Institute of Cancer Research has highlighted an important advance in radiotherapy for prostate cancer.

For eligible men with localised prostate cancer, a more precise form of radiotherapy known as SABR can deliver treatment in just 5 hospital sessions rather than around 20.

And importantly, fewer visits don't appear to mean compromising cancer control. The research reported 96% disease control at five years, compared with 95% for conventional radiotherapy.

For patients, that can mean fewer journeys to hospital and less disruption to work, family and everyday life. There could be a significant benefit for the NHS too — with estimates suggesting that if just one in five eligible men received SABR, around 50,000 treatment appointments could be freed up each year.

At Prost8, we think developments like this demonstrate something even bigger.

The prostate cancer treatment landscape is changing. From advances in radiotherapy to minimally invasive focal treatments, there are increasingly different ways of treating prostate cancer depending on the individual man and his diagnosis.

There isn't one treatment that's right for every man. That's why knowing your choices matters.

When we talk about prostate cancer treatment, we usually ask one question:

"Will it treat the cancer?"

That's exactly where the conversation should start.

But perhaps it shouldn't be where it ends.

The recently published 10-year UK study has strengthened the evidence that, for many suitable men with localised prostate cancer, focal therapy can provide excellent long-term cancer control while significantly reducing life-changing side effects. (info here: https://www.imperial.nhs.uk/about-us/news/new-study-shows-focal-therapy-treats-prostate-cancer)

So here's another question...

What if choosing the right treatment for the right patient could also help the NHS?

Imagine:
💙Shorter hospital stays.
💙More day-case procedures.
💙Less costly at the point of delivery
💙Fewer treatment-related complications.
💙Less aftercare costs (incontinence/sexual support)
💙More efficient use of NHS resources.

This isn't about one treatment replacing another.

Surgery, radiotherapy, active surveillance and focal therapy all have an important place in prostate cancer care. The key is ensuring that every suitable man understands all of his treatment options so ‘he’ can make a truly informed decision.

Because informed choices don't just benefit patients.

They have the potential to benefit the NHS too.

The evidence has moved on. Its time to catch up...

Last week, one of the biggest conversations in prostate cancer treatment changed.

For years, one of the main reasons given for not routinely discussing focal therapy was the lack of long-term evidence.

Today, that evidence exists.
Now the big question is whether every man will hear about it.

A landmark UK study following 3,477 men over 10 years has demonstrated excellent long-term cancer control for appropriately selected men, with survival outcomes comparable to radical treatment, but with significantly fewer life-changing side effects.

This doesn't mean focal therapy is right for everyone.

It does mean every suitable man deserves to know it exists and to have the opportunity to discuss whether it could be appropriate for them.

The science has moved on. Now the conversations need to catch up.

Because one of the biggest decisions of a man's life should never depend on where he lives, which hospital he attends, or which consultant he happens to see.

At Prost8, we've already seen a significant increase in enquiries from patients wanting to understand their options, alongside clinicians keen to learn more about offering focal therapy.

While many across the NHS and private healthcare have welcomed these findings, there are still those who will overlook the evidence because it challenges long-held beliefs or established practice.

But there is only one agenda that matters.
The patient's.

For decades, breast cancer treatment has evolved to preserve healthy tissue whenever it is safe and appropriate. Many women are now offered breast-conserving surgery instead of mastectomy.

Shouldn't men be offered the same principle of choice when appropriate?
If you've been treated for prostate cancer, we'd genuinely like to know:
Were you told about every appropriate treatment option before making your decision?

And if you're about to have a treatment consultation, we'd also love to hear whether all appropriate options, including focal therapy, are discussed.

Email us at info@prost8.org.uk.

The evidence has changed.
Now it's time to change the conversation.

A new 10-year study is being hailed as one of the most significant advances in prostate cancer treatment for a generation.

Published this week in European Urology, the landmark study followed 3,477 men treated with focal therapy across 14 UK hospitals over a 10-year period. The results demonstrate outstanding long-term cancer control, with outcomes comparable to surgery and radiotherapy, while dramatically reducing the risk of urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction and bowel problems for many suitable men.

For decades, men have been led to believe they had to choose between curing their cancer and protecting their quality of life.

This study changes that conversation.

It provides the strongest evidence yet that, for many men with localised prostate cancer, treating only the cancerous area of the prostate can deliver excellent long-term cancer control while preserving the things that matter most – continence, sexual function and quality of life.

For almost eight years, Prost8 has been the UK's only charity dedicated to helping men understand focal therapy and access specialist centres where it is appropriate. Today's landmark publication doesn't change our mission – it validates it.

We've always believed that prostate cancer treatment should be about saving lifestyles as well as lives. This new evidence brings us one step closer to ensuring every suitable man is routinely told about focal therapy before making one of the biggest decisions of his life.

Focal therapy isn't the right treatment for every man.

But every suitable man deserves to know it's an option.

If you or someone you know has recently been diagnosed with localised prostate cancer, don't make one of the biggest decisions of your life until you understand every appropriate treatment option available to you.

✅ Ask about all appropriate treatment options.

✅ Ask whether focal therapy could be right for you.
