We started making art in my garage. Now we’re raising $3,500 for two youth arts workshops and a Kwanzaa marketplace where 15 students can display and sell what they create.

$200 sponsors a student. Any amount helps us pay teaching artists and cover supplies, meals, and coordination.

Help us make it happen:

Three years ago, I thought I was done with poetry and teaching. Now I’m back in Detroit—a place I thought I’d never live again. Hey, at least I’m consistent.

I didn’t think I would stand on another stage or walk into another classroom. It’s funny how life will get your pen moving. It’s funny how experience prepares you to become a better teacher.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that putting pen to paper and putting my hand on a mic helped lead me out of some of the darkest times of my life.

I’m grateful to share that same opportunity and gift with students from my hometown because I am living proof of the power of poetry and spoken word.

I couldn’t be more excited to be working with InsideOut Literary Arts. If you know a school—or even a student—who might be interested, inbox me. I’d love to make the connection and help get the conversation started. by @prostell
