Fleeing from earthquakes, destruction and violence amongst other things, migration is never just a straight road, it’s survival in motion. 🇭🇹🌎

After disasters destroyed homes and violence made daily life dangerous, many Haitians traveled across countries chasing the promise of safety in the U.S. But immigration policies turned that journey into waiting game. Haitian immigrants have spent months and years waiting in border cities like Tijuana and Tapachula, where the dream of crossing didn’t disappear, it just changed direction.

Instead of reaching the United States, many built lives where they landed. As they were forced to regroup Haitian immigrants began opening restaurants, learning new languages, and blending cultures. Haitian fried plantains next to Mexican tortillas, Creole mixing with Spanish, new traditions growing from hardship. Migration isn’t just about borders—it’s about people colliding, adapting, and creating something new out of survival.

I finally got the opportunity to check out a Haitian restaurant in Tijuana and even though the owner was out of some of the stuff we wanted to order (they ship product in from Haiti 🇭🇹) the food we ate was devoured as you can see on one of our pictures.

I was greeted by a lovely women who spoke very little Spanish but tried her best to welcome us and a few moments later David came into to the dinning room to greet us and talk to us about the menu. We ended up ordering the following:

-Griot De Cerdo
-Pollo Frito
-Pescado Frito

Everything was deliciously, I’m not big on fish but the fish we had was soo good. The little one ordered the Pollo Frito and as one can see the chicken didn’t stand a chance. The bannann peze (tostones) were a big hit! Lastly, the griot de cerdo was had good flavor - I just wished it was a little more tender and less fried. Overall, go visit the homie David at Restaurante L’ArtiBonita #ResturanteLArtibonita #Tijuana by @provechx

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted — but want to make sure I share with y’all all the delicious food I had the privilege of experiencing while in Ecuador 🇪🇨. I’ll be real with y’all - I don’t know much about Ecuadorian gastronomy but I was definitely excited to explore!

On today’s episode I bring to you Langostinos al Ajillo from @syolapesca.

Personally, I like seafood but I’m not one to order seafood willingly at restaurants not because I don’t like it but because I feel like not everyone can make solid seafood dish. This is not the case here.

At La Pesca Seafood everything I tried was delicious, I order their ceviche but I don’t remember the name of it and I forgot to take a picture but what I do remember was that it was super flavorful and really delicious. Def. different, since I’m used to Mexican ceviche but nonetheless super delicious.

The main character tho for this post was the langostinos al ajillo - al ajillo literally means with garlic and guajillo chilies (but it wasn’t spicy at all, Ecuadorians don’t do spicy LOL).

The langostinas were smothered with the Al Ajillo sauce and it had a bottom base of butter and garlic that you could scoop up with the bread they served along with the langostinas. There was a little bit of work to peels the langostinas but nothing troublesome. I stayed in Guayaquil for four days and went back to that place three times. If you ever find yourself in Guayaquil, Ecuador 🇪🇨 - go eat a la pesca!

PS: the last photo I took from the Google search - someone else took it but wanted to give y’all a visual of what the front of the restaurant looks like. taken in Guayaquil, Ecuador by @provechx

This past week I was in New Orleans, Louisiana - it was my first time visiting and I had lots of fun and food!

Let me take you to @brennansnola - this place is REGAL!
I felt special special walking into this restaurant. The decor was fitting for a king and it’s royal family and guest.

The majesty of the King’s Room [where we were seated] is heralded upon entrance, with its ruling theme of royal hues proclaimed throughout. The handsome design boasts cream and gold damask wallpaper and a large crystal chandelier. Literally, this room was breathtaking!

But let me tell you about the BEST part — the New Orleans Creo dinner and it’s friendly staff - they made that night so special!

It was a three course meal - I personally started out with the Seafood Gumbo it had such rich and hearty flavors. It was a type of dish that you took a bite of and because it was soo good that you immediately contemplated life.

The Braised Short Rib just melted in your mouth. It had such a rich flavor that as I sit here an type this out my mouth is watering all over again 🤤. As we move to dessert - on the menu I chose the world famous banana foster — and it was delicious. I love ice cream and I love bananans so this was such an amazing treat and the ice cream was made in house. So everything was fresh. However, there was an impromptu aperance of a their bread putting and when I tell you the moment I took a bite from this dessert I sunk into what quite possibly was a good orgasm. It was MY FAVORITE dessert of the night. I thank the dessert gods for blessing me with this gift because it wasn’t on the menu as an option. If you have the chance to go to NOLA - consider making reservations at Brennan’s, you won’t regret it!

Note: reservations are a must.

Back in May I went to D.C. (my second home) and stayed at the @eaton.dc hotel. The Eaton is a dope boutique hotel - it’s a whole vibe y’all. It’s super welcoming and inclusive — they have a dope speakeasy in the back by what looks like the hotels library area called @allegory_dc it’s the first bar to blend art, literature and social Justice and craft cocktails. I’ll do a post on them later but if you’re in D.C. check them out if you haven’t already.

Today, I’m highlighting @micheles.dc — this place just like the rest of the hotel is a vibe. Michele’s is a new French American Michelin star ⭐️ restaurant - Chef Matt Baker ( @chef_mbaker ) named the restaurant after his late mother, inspired by his family connection to Houston and New Orleans, and how they have impacted his approach to cooking, cuisine and hospitality. He uses his classical French training as a conduit to bring together the diverse and distinct flavors of both cities.

I had the Grilled Ribeye with smoked potatoes, Gremolata, Maître d’ Butter, Sauce Bordelaise and paired it with and paired it with an Old Fashioned 🥃

Let me tell you — the food was delicious - my eyes were bigger than my stomach - I wasn’t able to finish it all in one sitting but rest assured that non of it went to waste.

The staff were super friendly, welcoming and attentive — I would def. go there again. Just a flag since it’s fine dinning it’s pricy but worth every penny if it’s accessible to you.

Michele’s is a great spot to stop in for dinner, or a cocktail, happy hour or brunch!

Y’all this right here is my favorite Ramen place. @sakuramendc - whenever I come here I order the shoki bowl [served with berkshire porkbelly chashu, rib eye beef, seasoned egg, scallions, sprouts, nori, nininku-tare (garlic-oil), chicken broth with shoyu and thin noodles]. I ordered mine with a spicy fireball, extra noodles, egg and roasted garlic.

Sakuramen is located in Adams Morgan in Washington, D.C. - if you live in the area and haven’t checked it out yet, I don’t know what you’ve been doing with your life. Or if you find yourself visiting D.C sometime in the near future - I would recommend you check out Sakuramen. A friendly note - this place gets packed and it’s small, so plan accordingly.

Saku also has some delicious appetizers - I usually order their chashu buns they are so good.

Have you ever eaten at @sakuramendc? If so, what is your go to ramen? taken in Washington D. C. by @provechx

Today we visit @tacos1986la — it has a simple menu — T.J. style tacos, quesadillas, mulitas and vampiros of your choice of asada, chicken, adobada and mushroom. Topped with cebolla, cilantro, salsa and guacamole.

Love this place not only because of the good food but also because every time I’ve gone — it’s like I’m being greeted by a long lost tio. It feels like a bit of home in the middle of DTLA.

I ordered a vampiro [which is firm tortilla (almost like a tostada but not quite) with a layer of melted cheese and your choice of meat. In my case it was adobada] if crunch is what your looking for — go get yourself a vampiro!

I also ordered a mulita — it’s like a quesadilla but with two tortillas. You got your cheese, protein of choice [in my case it was asada] plus the cebolla, cilantro, salsa and guacamole. And of course you can’t forget the Mexican coke!

Love this place because it feels familiar — the music is always on point, and the food is great! Next time you find yourself in DTLA — go check out @tacos1986la for some TJ style tacos and good vibes! #Provechx #Tacos #tacochronicles #foodie taken in Downtown Los Angeles by @provechx

Provechx is elated to post our first ever highlight of this long time coming food insta blog.

Back in June, 2021 — I traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco for the first time.

A local suggested that I visit @panchostakos before I left Puerto Vallarta - he warned that I needed to get there as soon as they opened or be ready to wait in line for a while.

Let me tell you - these Al Pastor tacos are the best Al Pastor tacos I have ever had. Hand made tortillas and deliciously seasoned Al Pastor made for a great experience.

Everything I ordered was delicious — the only thing I was not impressed with was the stuffed avocado (warm avocado is not my jam but it might be yours).

I def. recommend that if you find yourself in Puerto Vallarta (located in Zona Romantica) and you love Al Pastor tacos then this is a MUST visit place.

Happy New Year, as we enter 2022 in the midst of what at times might feel like we are living in so much uncertainty, I’ve decided to start this adventure of digitally capturing my love of food (eating and cooking), traveling, learning about new cultures and (yes) politics.

Food is a vehicle to not only nourishing our bodies and creating memories and experiences but it also serves as a means to make what feels like such a large and foreign world at times smaller and more familiar.

Access to traveling was not an option growing up - however, my passion for food and cooking sparked a curiosity in me to learn about different cultures and the food they ate. It was about the people behind the dish, the ingredients, the spices and the love, labor and yes (maybe) the politics behind the entire plate.

Sharing a meal allows me to learn and connect more deeply with those who I am breaking bread with. Enjoying food with friends, forces us to slow down, opens up the opportunity to catch up, talk about current events, share some laughs, or tears and sometimes even talk politics.

I present to you @provechx - a food blog where I will share some of the places that I love but mostly of places I have yet to discover. As I roam the local streets of L.A., travel across state lines, and or (when this pandemic calms down) travel internationally. I want to create a digital map of my food adventures, amazing food experiences and share with all of you not only the food but also the people I meet along the way.

Please send recommendations, follow along, and enjoy the ride!
