Die Ausstellung zur Erinnerung an den im November 2024 verstorbenen Walter Dahn bringt 60 von etwa 80 seiner ehemaligen Studierenden zu einer Hommage auf dem Gelände von TRAFIK Projekte in Brühl–Vochem zusammen. Dieses kollektive Erinnern bezieht sich auf die gemeinsame Zeit an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig. Von 1995 bis 2017 hatte Dahn dort eine Professur für Malerei inne.

Provinz offers: Today we have selected three artists for you who do not see urban space as a background, but as an active place of movement, conflict and appropriation. Between painting, objects and graphic compression, works are created about people in urban space, social tensions and the visual language of the contemporary public. It is precisely in the interaction of the works that an expanded narrative emerges about the city as a special social and political space, including systems of global mobility.
For many years, Thomas Kilpper’s work has dealt with political spaces, social friction and the traces of collective history.
His imagery is direct, condensed and deliberately confrontational. Fragments, signs and figures overlap and address public space as a place of conflict and memory.
With his new works, Erik Schmidt focuses on people in motion - on skateboarders as part of an urban choreography between freedom, control and appropriation of public space.
The works combine cinematic atmosphere with painterly immediacy.
Skateboarding does not appear here as a subculture cliché, but as an independent form of reading and using the city.
For his edition, Michail Pirgelis draws on the visual language of civil aviation. Two passenger jets are shown schematically and are reminiscent of historical airline playing card designs. The starting point is an artistic practice that deals with the remains of aviation and transforms them into new image and object forms.
