COMPETE FOR THE 2027 PROVSLAM TEAM! — A poetry slam is a literary competition in which poets perform their original work without props, costumes, or musical accompaniment within a 3-minute time limit. 5 randomly selected judges from the audience score each poem on a scale from 0.0 to 10.0. The poet with the highest cumulative score at the end of the slam wins!

🎤

The point isn’t the points — the point is the poetry! Poetry slam has a rich tradition, drawing from the Black art form of spoken word and originating in working-class Chicago bars. We gather for poetry slams because they offer us one model of how all of us can have a stake in our community’s art!

💖

TEAM QUALIFIER SLAM GUIDELINES:

* Capped at 8 poets — first come, first served, absolutely no spots saved
* Poets must be 18+ years old to compete
* Come early & don’t cut the line
* Line begins at door between AS220 Bar & AS220 Main Stage (@as220providence)
* Competitor round-up (check-in) & draw for slam order is at 7:30 PM
* Bring 3 poems under 3 minutes — 3rd poem is for a tiebreaker
* Our slam has 2 rounds with eliminations — in Round 1, all 8 poets compete, then top 6 scores advance to Round 2
* Top 4 of the evening advance to Semi-Finals A or Semi-Finals B
* Top poets from Semi-Finals A + Semi-Finals B compete for a spot on the team at Grand Slam Finals
* 1st Place wins cash prize
* Questions? Leave a comment, DM us or email providencepoetryslam@gmail.com
