🩺 Medicine isn’t just scrubs and stethoscopes - it’s strategy!Last summer, I interned with the Strategy Team at NHS England - not something I expected to do as a 2nd year med student, but it completely shifted how I think about healthcare. 🏥I had zero experience in policy or strategy. Just a deep interest in healthcare systems and a bit of courage to apply anyway. And honestly? That was enough to get me in the room! 🙌The learning curve was steep📈 - this wasn’t clinical skills or anatomy labs. I was diving into comparing international health system performance, navigating new tools (hi Excel👋🏽), delivering presentations to strategy analysts, and even contributing to projects like the NHS Long Term Plan. It wasn’t clinical work, but it was just as impactful! 💥This experience showed me that strong healthcare relies just as much on good strategy and policy as it does on skilled clinicians👩‍⚕️. It reshaped my career interests and opened my eyes to how doctors can contribute to system-level change - and how much the NHS needs frontline voices in those rooms🗣️!So here’s what I’ll leave you with:Be bold.
