POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hi! I’m Pernille, a 32-year-old Danish bookgirl, and like so many others, I recently fell headfirst into the romantasy rabbit hole 🐉💫

Instead of spamming my private account, I created this little corner to share special editions, indie finds, and captivating reads 📚

I mostly read in English, but I’ll also be highlighting Danish/Nordic authors along the way 🌌

Excited to share this book journey with you ✨

“Trust me, peach. You’ve never met anyone like me before.”

I was really happy to be part of the ARC team for Taken by Shadows! I fell in love with the character art on Genevieve's Instagram, so definitely check it out!

I love reviewing indie authors' books and helping promote them, but this is still an entirely honest review. :)

THE PLOT

Imogen is Fae, but she has no magic. After growing up among humans, she leaves home to learn more about her origins and find out what happened to her parents.

When she's attacked by humans, she's rescued by a group of Fae who are interested in something she possesses. They take her captive, and she strikes a bargain with their leader.

MY THOUGHTS

I struggled a bit with Imogen as our FMC. She's cocky, constantly ignores what she's told, and somehow always gets herself into trouble. 😂 That can be fun, but it didn't really work for me.

I also needed to get past around 50–60% before I really became invested. I usually enjoy slow worldbuilding, banter, and relationships developing, but the first half felt a little slow, and I didn't always understand Imogen's decisions.

BUT things really picked up in the final 40%. I connected much more with the MMC, who is a classic shadow daddy with a hell of a lot of trauma, and of course super protective (just how we like them!)

The political intrigue also starts unfolding, and while some things were predictable, there are still plenty of unanswered questions and loose ends.

Overall, it wasn't a perfect match for me, but I'm definitely invested enough to continue the series!

If you like these tropes, maybe this one is for you 🖤
• Political intrigue
• Fake relationship
• Secrets & manipulation
• Shadow daddy
• Hidden identity

Thank you @genevieve.addison.author for this book 💜

Only 16 days until The Spark of Rebellion is out in the wild! 🤯

I just started it, but I've already heard great things from my fellow arc readers 🖤

I know one thing, and that is that there’s so much more to this story than what we’re getting in book one, and I’m already intrigued!

⚔️ A dark fairy-tale retelling with Tim Burton vibes, cursed princess, and a not-so-charming prince? Say less.

Not Another Happily Ever After is a YA romantasy with a dark, whimsical take on familiar fairy-tale elements.

✨ THE BLURB

A curse threatens to destroy the kingdoms. The only hope lies within the still-beating heart of a half-dead princess.

Her heart is placed in the hands of the not-so-charming prince, and they’re forced into a union to undo the curse.

But the masked knight sworn to deliver her heart might just steal it for himself.

🖤 MY THOUGHTS

This was a short and enjoyable read with a really fun concept. I loved the dark fairy-tale atmosphere, Tim Burton-inspired whimsy, and all the fairy-tale references.

Because it’s quite short, I sometimes felt like we only scratched the surface. The beginning was a little confusing for me, and I would have loved more time to explore the world, characters, and some of the ideas introduced.

Once Sunday leaves her isolated life behind, I became much more invested. I loved watching her experience the world for the first time and slowly come into her own — and her inner monologue was definitely a highlight!

And then there’s Frog. 🐸🖤 A quiet, mysterious MMC with very few words, a glimpse into his diary, and a very smitten Sunday 💜

I still have questions, but there’s definitely enough here to make me curious about what comes next!

⭐️ 4 stars

👑 PICK THIS UP IF YOU LIKE:

🖤 Dark fairy-tale retellings
🖤 Tim Burton-inspired whimsy
🖤 Cursed princess
🖤 Arranged marriage (but not in the way we like it)
🖤 Royal knight romance
🖤 Morally grey heroes
🖤 Forbidden desire
🖤 Unique creatures & (some) worldbuilding

Not Another Happily Ever After is available now 🖤

Arc review
Book: The Shadows that Listen
Author @louisacarmodybooks

This book had me hooked from the beginning! ⭐️

Fast-paced, great banter (I ate it all up), and a dystopian world with Angels & Demons that gave me kind of Supernatural vibes 🖤

There are plenty of twists and turns, and while some were predictable, I didn't always see how they'd play out!

It may not be the typical slow burn, but I'd still categorize it as one — with 0.5 🌶️, there's definitely room for more romance and development 🔥

Overall, a solid foundation with plenty of potential for what's to come!

Dystopian • Angels & Demons • Slow Burn • Banter • Twists & Turns

Thank you, Louisa, for letting me be a part of the ARC team 🫶

AAAAAAAAHHH IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!!!

I was beginning to accept my defeat.... accept that I wasn't chosen for @rhiannonhargadon 's ARC team, for her upcoming book Tallow and Bone.

But I made it! I FINALLY got my acceptance 🔥🖤

I'm so freaking looking forward to this book, and I'm so happy to be a part of the ARC team, even though you got me worried there for a moment 🥲😂

If you haven't heard of it, then stop living under a rock and add this Salem Witch Trials retelling to your TBR immediately!

If you love dark fantasy romance, then don't miss The Spark Of Rebellion by J.A. Williams and its prequel Bound By Smoke And Ink.
This book will take you on an adventure of self-discovery with the main characters. It is a very character driven story set in an intense world full of an intricate political system that indoctrinates its kingdom against female magic. Very simular to the salem witch trials.

TROPES/VIBES:
⚔️Enemies to Lovers
⚔️Forbidden Love
⚔️Morally Grey MMC
⚔️Feminine Rage
⚔️Slow Burn
⚔️Yearning
⚔️Rebellion

BOUND BY SMOKE AND INK
A great introduction to the Threads of fate series.

I can sometimes have a hard time with prequel novellas, because it's a prequel, so it's short, you don't really have time for so much depth. It puts a really high pressure on the author, because the author really needs to deliver in a few amounts of pages.

In Bound by Smoke & Ink I actually felt @j_a_williams_author succeeded in a perfect prequel novella. We're learning about our main characters' backstory, they're young at age, and we're getting introduced to the tension in the kingdom and some of the magical system.

For me it was perfect! I was invested, I found interest in all the characters and their lives.

If you're planning on reading The Spark of Rebellion, I would definitely recommend starting with this!

Bound by Smoke & Ink are available now, then you're all set for when The Spark of Rebellion releases in October 🙌✨
