“We need never be ashamed of our tears.”

“Gene Hackman” was a three-week, two-person writers residency inside of @bfi.miami gallery during the fall of 2012. Every day, @thelunadiner and I, dressed in the exact same outfit, clocked in to write at identical desks from 10am to 5pm. Then at 5, the public was invited to listen as we took turns reading what we’d written that day and then mercilessly critiquing the writing of the other. Best residency ever. by @pscottcunningham

Played spades (lost). Played pool (lost). Against doctor’s orders, played basketball (lost). Walked right past Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys (speaking loudly in that beautiful Welsh accent) and resisted the urge to run up to them and recite a 6,000 word ode to The Americans (won). Spent a 4th summer in a row with the best people (won). Record: Undefeated. by @pscottcunningham

Dear Friends,

In 2014, I attended a bi-lingual poetry reading that Frank Baez from the Dominican Republic and Scott P. Cunningham from Miami gave at Kent State University’s Wick Poetry Center. I was mesmerized.

After the reading, I went to them and told them that, not only did I want to be their friend, which we have been since, but I wanted to read with them one day. It has taken us 12 years for all of us to have new books out to make it happen.

I could not be prouder to announce that on October 15th, all three of us will read poems by one another in our mother’s tongues; English, Haitian Creole, and Spanish. It will be a celebration of poetry and language like you have never seen.

Join us! It’s free! Save your seat at our link in bio.

Reading with friends is the best. I’m so grateful to Solid State for welcoming Clint and I earlier this week, and to everyone who came out, especially @sandrabeasley - my 2018 reading partner from my last book launch there! Huge thanks to Marie McGrath for putting it all together, and to Nas, the young poet who kicked off the evening with a beautiful poem. by @pscottcunningham

Over 15 years ago, P. Scott Cunningham invited local poets to grab their typewriters and hang out around Miami. The group, known then as the Miami Poetry Collective, became O, Miami!

@pscottcunningham brought us together once more on April 2 to celebrate the Florida launch of his new collection of poetry, “Self Portrait as the ‘i’ in Florida.”

A full house of friends, family, and collaborators met in the Mangrove Ballroom at Gramps Getaway where Nikisha Williams, COO of the @miamifoundation opened the night with an introduction to writer and director Darius Daughtry. Darius read the first poems of the night followed by a surprise appearance by Campbell McGrath to welcome Scott to the stage.

Thank you for joining us, @nikishawilliams, @dariusdaughtry, and @bashois2, and to @grampsgetaway for hosting us on day 2 of the 2026 O, Miami Poetry Festival!

P. . Scott Cunningham closed the night with a selection of poems ranging from reflections on fatherhood to musings on Miami’s absurd billboards and which of the city’s Taco Bells is the best. As always, his poetry filled the room with lightness and a deep love for Florida.

We love you Scott! Congratulations on a successful release! 🪞🍊🌴🖼
