Illinois has had more tornadoes this year than ever recorded. Along with tornadoes, the state has suffered from unprecedented flooding, hail, and extreme winds. Extreme weather is a symptom of the climate crisis that capitalism has created through the exploitation of fossil fuels.

Despite these storms, federal disaster relief has been scarce. Both Democrats and Republicans are ignoring the ongoing climate catastrophe and focusing more funding on wars, police, and ICE.

Instead of transitioning away from fossil fuels, the state and federal governments are supporting a massive data center build out that will increase carbon emissions. END RACIST POLICE TERROR‼️

Last night, Illinois State Police officers killed Jalen Carpenter in West Woodlawn. Stanley Carpenter, his father said, “They shot him multiple times in the head…He had so many bullets we couldn’t even view the body.”

Carpenter was a beloved father and an Amazon worker.

Very little information about the South Side shooting has been made public, and ISP is responsible for investigating themselves, as they are not subject to the same public oversight as CPD. 📚Join us for Class 4 of Socialist Summer School: The People vs Billionaires (In the Fight for the Future)

Class 4 is titled The War at Home and Abroad with Nazia Kazi.

Over the past three years, we have witnessed a surge in U.S. militarism abroad in Palestine, Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba, alongside increasingly blatant attacks on the working class at home, from ICE raids to the expansion of detention centers. We will examine these phenomena not as isolated policies, but as a coordinated offensive by a ruling class intent on protecting its imperialist interests.

We will clarify the material origins of this relationship, showing how the expansion of the weapons and war industry domestically, exemplified by projects like Cop City, is intrinsically linked to the projection of militarism globally. This is not a case of an “imperialist boomerang” coming home; it is a single, unified system of repression.

Socialist Summer School will be at @nabalacafe (4660 N Broadway) every Tuesday at 6pm from September 8th through November 24th. Registration includes all class materials, including recorded lectures and readings.

📣 RALLY WITH US ON NATIONAL CUSTODIAN APPRECIATION DAY! BRING OUR CUSTODIANS BACK!

❌ At the start of the school year, the Blue Island School Board voted to outsource all custodial positions. Effectively laying off 31 of 37 unionized custodial staff. Teachers have reported worsening school conditions with rodents, dead animals, and unsanitary bathrooms present.

The school board is allowing staff, students, and communities to operate in an unsafe and unclean school environment. Not only is it shameful, but Blue Island community members, school staff, and organizers are demanding the board bring our beloved custodians back!

‼️@bslfor25, @aldermanquezada, and @rossanafor33ward have introduced a resolution in support of Joslin workers!

The resolution calls on the State of Illinois to exercise eminent domain to keep the Joslin factory in operation, and recommends the re-hiring of all laid off workers, wage and benefits compensation until the factory resumes business as usual, and a full year’s salary for workers in the event that the state does not find a new operator for the plant.

This is a significant achievement of the Joslin workers who have spent the last month organizing community meetings, rallies, delegations to Springfield and mass mobilizations to city council meetings. The growing support for Joslin workers is a demonstration that their fight is our fight. The Joslin workers are showing the way in confronting the crises of capitalism, and working class fighters like Byron Sigcho Lopez, Rossana Rodriguez Sanchez, and Anthony Quezada are an example to cities across the state that must now do the same!

Last Monday, Tyson Workers United packed East Moline City Council chambers to ask the city for support in the fight to re-open the Tyson plant and restore 2,500 jobs to the Quad Cities metro.

Guadalupe, who worked for Tyson Foods for 21 years, shared her experience and how her family and community have been impacted. She spoke to Council about how workers remained loyal to Tyson for 3 years despite having their hours and wages cut - only to be treated like they were disposable when Tyson closed the plant. Now, thousands of families like hers across the Quad Cities are facing displacement, foreclosure, and worse because of Tyson’s greed.

Guadalupe helped lead the delegation of Tyson Workers United who traveled to Springfield to meet with the Lieutenant Governor earlier this month! Already, the pressure has led to the state mobilizing resources to resell the plant! But this is not enough. Workers are continuing to fight for what they deserve and garnering support from local governments in their demand for the state to intervene and seize the plant! by @pslchicago

YESTERDAY: ICE agents assaulted a Black man who is a U.S. citizen in Evanston, leaving him bloodied in the street. The racist mass deportation campaign of the Trump administration is continuing to terrorize communities across Chicagoland.

It has been a year since the beginning of Midway Blitz, and no ICE or Border Patrol agents involved in that operation have been charged for their crimes.
