Health is Power ✊

We’re seeing dangerous rhetoric that denies science, prioritizes profit over people, and endangers our health.

The deregulation of the EPA and dismantling of the EPA’s Office of Environmental Justice will only increase health impacts and harm vulnerable communities.

With the support of our doctors, nurses, public health experts, and other healthcare professionals, PSR-LA will continue to

✅ push for accountability on the corporate forces driving this climate crisis

✅ demand policies that protect vulnerable communities

✅ address the health harms caused by nuclear threats and the contamination of our air, water, and soil.

Together, we’re working to protect health and justice.

Our commitment to exposing Big Oil’s greenwashing schemes like hydrogen and advocating for Energy Justice is a testament to that.

Thank you, @calstatelatvfm Community Impact Media Program students, for capturing our fight against these polluting industries.

Many parts of Los Angeles reach temperatures as high as 105 degrees Fahrenheit 🌡️

While temperatures are expected to be lower this evening, unhealthy heat is likely to return over the next few weeks.

Stay prepared.

EJCAP Coalition Members' Response to the Governor’s Veto of SB 1180:

According to existing law, the Plastic Pollution Mitigation Fund (PPMF) funds are set to be appropriated in the 2027-2028 California Budget. SB 1180 was a critical opportunity for the Legislature to focus spending on the needs and solutions of environmental justice communities, Indigenous Peoples, and workers. Without the clear guidelines provided in SB 1180, the Legislature will be forced into a passive, responsive stance to the Governor’s proposals for PPMF spending. EJ communities, Indigenous Peoples, and waste workers deserve better and must be centered in efforts to mitigate plastic pollution.

We are proud of EJCAP and our allies’ work to develop SB 1180, advance our vision and priorities for the PPMF, and build meaningful relationships throughout the process. While the bill was vetoed, our coalition is committed to continuing to elevate our priorities and fight to protect those most harmed by the lifecycle of plastic

Thank you, Senator @benallencan, for championing this bill and fighting for environmental justice communities in California. by @psr_la

For months, families in Boyle Heights and East LA couldn't open their windows, couldn't let their kids play outside, and lived with the stench of rotting food while a multi-billion-dollar company dragged its feet.

SB 716 raises the fines, which haven't changed since 1983, so companies feel the pressure to act fast. The bill passed the Legislature. Now it needs Governor Newsom's signature.

Join us in telling @cagovernor @gavinnewsom to sign SB 716!

Summer is Ending, But The Heat Isn’t.

This past summer was hot AND humid. We also had several extreme heat warnings. While tomorrow’s the last day of summer, it is determined that the heat will continue and we need to ensure that we are staying as cool and hydrated as we can. Here are a few things you can do during the high temperatures over the next couple of months! by @psr_la

We are optimistic that @cagovernor will sign this bill into law and "leave a legacy on how California will address the plastic pollution crisis well beyond the end of his term.”

Thanks, @plasticsnews, for including EJCAP in your article about SB 1180.

SB 954 was built with input from community groups, local governments, manufacturers, and environmental organizations, all working to close a toxic loophole together. That’s the kind of bill Gov. Newsom should be proud to sign. Close the toxic loophole, Governor Newsom. #SB954 by @psr_la

Sacrifice zones are heavily polluted areas — often fence-line communities in low-income, Black and Brown neighborhoods — that bear the disproportionate brunt of industrial toxins and systemic environmental racism.

Join us for a film screening of The Sacrifice Zone by Physicians for Social Responsibility LA, a documentary that unpacks Big Oil’s latest climate scam: carbon capture and storage (CCS). Hear first-hand from communities already being impacted by carbon dumping projects in the Central Valley and Bay Area.

Learn how carbon capture and storage is creating a new wave of fossil-fueled sacrifice zones in California, including right here in the Delta region of the Bay Area.

The documentary film will be followed by a panel and Q&A.

✅What: The Sacrifice Zone Film Screening
🗓️When: Tuesday, September 29th, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
📚Where: Benicia Public Library, 150 E L Street, Benicia, CA by @psr_la

Extreme heat threatens public health. As temperatures rise, so do the health risks. Plan and prepare to avoid heat exhaustion in your communities and for yourself.

And remember, protecting the community means looking out for our most vulnerable neighbors — older adults, outdoor workers, people with disabilities and chronic illness, and our unhoused neighbors. A quick check-in can go a long way.
