POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Over the last two years during the construction of the new Art Building on PSU's campus, Leroy Bynum, Jr., Dean of the College of the Arts, stopped by on a regular basis to take a selfie in front of the building as it went up.

The beautiful metal-clad mass-timber building is finally finished and full of students, faculty and staff in the Jordan Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design. We love the new building almost as much as Dean Bynum does! by @psu_arts

The brand-new home of the Jordan Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design (@psu_artanddesign) is featured in this month’s Architectural Record, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. This beautiful mass-timber building brings together all of our visual arts programs under one roof, after decades of being scattered across campus. Thanks to the brilliant, thoughtful, innovative work of LEVER Architecture, our art, art history and design students now have a creative home that matches the excellence of the school’s programs and supports the needs of art students from all backgrounds. A true game-changer for the art community at PSU and across our region.

🎉Join us on Tuesday, October 13 at 4pm to 8pm for the official Grand Opening celebration! See the Architectural Record story and get more info at the link in our bio.

Announcing the 2026 Arlene Schnitzer Visual Arts Prize recipients!

Clara Johnson is a photographer, writer, and poet based in Portland, Oregon. Working across photography and text, she examines the image as a visual language whose perceived objectivity shapes memory, narrative, and collective experience. Influenced by her work as a film projectionist, Clara investigates photography's historical ties to journalism, propaganda, and the entertainment industry, exploring how visual media mediates perception and soothes social unrest. Through saturated color, close observation, sequencing, and writing, her work considers crowds, collective memory, and the emotional disorientation of contemporary image culture.

Clara’s work has been exhibited at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at PSU, Blue Sky Gallery, PLACE Gallery, and the PAM Rental Sales Gallery. She received a BFA in Art Practice from Portland State University ‘26

🎭 Announcing PSU Theater Arts’ 2026–27 season!

Get ready for a season of wildly inventive, hilarious and diabolical plays, beginning November 12.

After 2,300 audience members packed the house for Spring Awakening last winter, Oregon ArtsWatch celebrated our thriving Theater Arts program in a feature story. Now we’re ready to take that momentum and run with it, with three wildly different plays that promise to surprise, provoke and delight.

Get your tickets now and join us for all three productions! (Link in bio)

🖨️ November 12 - 21, 2026
"Do You Feel Anger?"
By Mara Nelson-Greenberg
Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply disturbing. An empathy coach arrives at a workplace warped by toxic masculinity. How far can empathy go?

🧙🏿 February 25 - March 6, 2027
"Gretel! The Musical"
Book by Jason Tremblay & Suzan Zeder; music & lyrics by Jenn Hartmann Luck, Zeder & Tremblay
A co-production with Oregon Children's Theatre
The spellbinding journey of a young girl learning to harness her own ferocity, tend to her grief and claim her power.

💬 May 20 - 29, 2027
"Cyrano de Bergerac"
By Edmond Rostand
Freely adapted by Martin Crimp
A dazzling adaptation where skewering wordplay takes the place of traditional swordfighting, while a love triangle, built on borrowed language, sparks questions around truth, identity, and the nature of connection.

Continuing the Portland State University School of Architecture’s 12-year partnership with the @pickathon music festival, architecture students created a backdrop for this year’s Cherry Hill stage made from disused fishing nets. The nets, sourced by Net Your Problem from Oregon coast fishermen, were draped and suspended from a series of wooden structures, forming a billowing, tubular, cloudlike vision that provided an evocative background for 18 musical acts. With the Global Improvisation Initiative Symposium taking place in Lincoln Hall last week, the entire building was absolutely buzzing with creative energy and collaboration. Hallways, performance spaces and classrooms on every floor were filled with scholars and artists who traveled to Portland to learn about the art of improvisation. Workshops, performances, and networking sessions kept the attendees engaged the entire four days, and our own PSU Impro Ensemble played a huge role. Read more about this unique event, co-organized by Theater Arts professor Theresa Robbins Dudeck, in the story by Brett Campbell of @artswatch at the link in our bio! by @psu_arts

Till the next time Beijing!
Chamber Choir headlined the China International Choral Festival in Beijing and is heading off to Chengdu! What a busy and exciting 4 days of singing and sightseeing 🤩 We had the pleasure of performing alongside choirs around the world, sharing each others cultures and the beauty within them. When we weren’t performing, we spent time seeing the wonders of China! Being able to see the Summer Palace, the Great Wall, and the Forbidden City was truly such a once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you to everyone who made this possible! Continue following along on our adventures to Chengdu and Shanghai 💚
