Artist + Gallery

It can be difficult to grapple life as an artist, especially after finishing your undergraduate degree. This was an opportunity for our BFAs to visit and be in conversation with an artist and their gallery: Amy Bay with May Barruel at Nationale. Two incredible members of the Portland art community.

We left with stories and takeaways from an artist and gallery owner who reminded us to be authentic, show up for exhibitions, and to be a part of a community that supports each other.

Thank you Amy + May for speaking your truths💕

Come help us make a bunch of weird, beautiful, meaningful stuff that’s going to get run over by a steamroller this fall.

(We’re serious.)

We’re kicking off a collaborative art-making event to create drawings, textures, and layered materials that will become part of a giant steamroller print event in our new building. Your marks = part of the final prints.

No pressure, no experience needed. Just show up.

Not a “maker”? Perfect. Bring scraps, photos, printed things, notes, ephemera...anything you’re into, and we’ll fold it into the mix.

What’s happening:
• Drawing
• Collaging
• Experimenting
• Hanging out
• Snacks + good energy

What happens to the work:
Everything made will be transformed into large-scale carved prints and printed using a literal steamroller (more on that later )

Details:
5:30–7:30
Shattuck Annex
Free + open to all (bring a friend!)

Let’s say goodbye to the old building by making something big, messy, and unforgettable together. by @psusculpture

Artists Garth Amundson and Pierre Gour @amundsongour met with Erik Geschke’s @erikgeschkestudio ART 494 Advanced Sculpture @psusculpture class at Well Well Projects @wellwellprojects . Students had the opportunity to both hear a lecture by Amundson and Gour about their collaborative and individual work and see the in-progress installation of their exhibition “Born REMEMBERING”. The opening reception for “Born REMEMBERING” is Saturday, April 4th, 5-8 PM. The exhibition will be up through Sunday, April 26th. Amundson and Gour will be doing a gallery talk, Sunday, April 26th, 3-4 PM. Gallery Hours are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 12-5 PM.

Garth Amundson and Pierre Gour work as a collaborative team, their work explores the perceptions and politics surrounding the domestic sphere and identity. Using collage and photo-scanning techniques, they speak metaphorically about social construction. Some of their work is literal collaboration, and at other times, they serve one another in a support role. Amundson holds an MFA from Syracuse University and Gour from the the Univerity of New Mexico. Their work has been exhibited in South Korea, Spain, Sweden and throughout North America. They have completed several residency programs; Sculpture Space in NY, Cimelice Castle near Prague, Fundación Valparaíso in Spain, Lademoen in Norway, Bellagio Rockefeller Center in Italy, and a Fulbright in Mexico.
