Happy 80th Birthday to Donovan — the sunshine supernova who helped soundtrack the psychedelic era with mysticism, whimsy, and mind-expanding wonder. From “Sunshine Superman” and “Season of the Witch” to “Hurdy Gurdy Man,” Donovan fused folk, psychedelia, Eastern philosophy, and flower power into a sound that remains timeless.

Fifteen years ago today, Radio Moscow unleashed *The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz*—an aptly named blast of fuzz-drenched psychedelic blues.

With searing guitar leads, restless rhythms, and the spirit of Hendrix, Cream, and Blue Cheer running through its grooves, the band’s third album brought the excess of late-’60s acid rock roaring into the 21st century. Parker Griggs handled the vocals, guitars, and drums, with Zach Anderson on bass.

For anyone who likes their psychedelia loud, heavy, and a little unhinged, this one deserves another spin. Start with “Little Eyes” and follow the fuzz. 🌀

Our head writer, Johnny Damron [@johnnybdope ], wrote an in-depth review of The Crystal Teardrop's [@thecrystalteardrop ] newest album, 'Love You More,' for Psychedelic Scene Magazine [@psychedelic_scene ].

The psychedelic rock LP is out now on Popclaw, a subsidiary of Rise Above Records [@riseaboverecords ].

“I fight not to speak in absolutes, but to my ears at least, a more perfect closing track for an album of this style, I could not ask for. From the sitar work, Anatolian rhythms, and beautiful vocal performance to the musings on the meaning of life and the looping vocal sample at the end, this song is an accomplishment of lysergic proportions.”

Sixty years ago today, The Seeds spun *A Web of Sound*, taking their raw garage-rock attack deeper into psychedelia.

Released in October 1966, their second album captured a band stretching its boundaries without losing its primitive punch. “Mr. Farmer,” “Tripmaker,” and “A Faded Picture” offered different entrances into the Seeds’ strange world, while the sprawling, 14-minute “Up in Her Room” turned repetition into a hypnotic trip.

Loose, insistent, and gloriously unruly, *A Web of Sound* still sounds like the garage door opening onto another dimension.

Sixty years of good vibrations!

Released October 10, 1966, The Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” packed a world of musical imagination into a single. Marketed as a “pocket symphony,” Brian Wilson’s studio masterpiece paired glorious vocal harmonies with shifting musical passages and an eerie, otherworldly electronic shimmer.

Often celebrated as a landmark of psychedelic pop, the song turns a familiar tale of attraction into a kaleidoscopic journey—sunny, strange, and full of unexpected turns.

Sixty years later, that chorus still feels like a burst of pure possibility.

October 9 brought the world two Lennons—and some extraordinary psychedelic music.

John Lennon would have turned 86 today, while Sean Lennon celebrates his 51st birthday. In a curious coincidence, Sean was born on his father’s 35th birthday. That’s quite a birthday present!

John helped expand the possibilities of psychedelic rock with Beatles classics like “Tomorrow Never Knows,” “Strawberry Fields Forever,” and “I Am the Walrus.” Sean has explored his own wonderfully adventurous territory, particularly with The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and The Claypool Lennon Delirium, blending dreamy melodies, surreal imagery, and mind-bending musical turns.

Two generations, one birthday, and plenty of great music for curious ears. Remembering John and wishing Sean a happy birthday!

Intricate, iridescent, and full of unexpected turns.

Anton Barbeau’s *Come Home to Me* offers a maze of psychedelic pop, with vocals that evoke Robyn Hitchcock and Peter Murphy. A colorful listen for those who like their pop a little peculiar.

55 years of *Message from the Country*!

Released on this day in 1971, The Move’s fourth and final studio album captured Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne, and Bev Bevan at a fascinating crossroads: recording their farewell LP while creating the debut album by Electric Light Orchestra.

With its Beatles-inspired harmonies, eccentric arrangements, and blend of psychedelic pop, heavy rock, and musical mischief, *Message from the Country* brought The Move’s adventurous spirit into a new decade. The swirling title track and the dreamy “No Time” are particular treats for psychedelic ears.

A fitting farewell to one of British psychedelia’s most inventive bands—and a glimpse of the musical possibilities ahead.

Ten years of Requiem! Released on October 7, 2016, GOAT’s third album took the masked Swedish collective’s psychedelic explorations into folkier territory, with hypnotic grooves and an earthy, communal atmosphere.

Described by the band as their “folk” album, Requiem still had plenty of electric fire: “All-Seeing Eye” and “Goatfuzz” kept the fuzz burning amid its more pastoral passages. Mysterious, immersive, and unmistakably GOAT, it’s an invitation to get lost in the music.
