In 1971, Gil Scott-Heron released The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, a spoken-word piece that would become one of the most influential works of political art ever recorded.

Part poem, part protest, the track emerged during a period of social upheaval in America and challenged the growing disconnect between reality and the images being sold through television, advertising, and mass media. Rather than offering easy answers, Scott-Heron delivered a sharp reminder that meaningful change isn’t something you watch unfold from a distance.

What made the piece so powerful wasn’t just its critique of consumer culture or political spectacle, but its deeper message: real transformation begins within. The revolution, in Scott-Heron’s view, wasn’t a broadcast event. It was personal, lived, and impossible to package into entertainment.

Terence McKenna’s Final Interview (1998) is a fascinating conversation that feels even more relevant today than when it was recorded. Filmed by director John Hazard at McKenna’s home in Hawaii just months before his cancer diagnosis, the interview captures one of the psychedelic movement’s most influential thinkers reflecting on the accelerating pace of change, technology, culture, and the future of human consciousness.

Throughout the discussion, McKenna describes a world becoming increasingly strange and unpredictable. He suggests that society is entering a period of rapid transformation where old systems, beliefs, and institutions struggle to keep pace with the complexity of emerging realities.

One of the interview’s most compelling themes is McKenna’s belief that psychedelics could serve as tools for navigating this transition. Rather than viewing them as escapism, he saw them as catalysts for perspective, creativity, and deeper engagement with the mysteries of existence.
