ARMARIUM MIRABILIUM

Translating from Latin to “Cabinet of Curiosities,” the exhibition draws inspiration from collections of objects assembled before their categorical boundaries had been clearly defined. Originally referring to entire rooms rather than pieces of furniture, these cabinets brought together the strange, the beautiful, and the unexpected.

We’ve transformed Ptolemy into a contemporary cabinet of curiosities, bringing together works that challenge the boundaries of what art is, what it isn’t, and how it can be experienced.

Come curious!

Join us at @ptolemy.world for the opening of Armarium Mirabilium, a group exhibition presented by Plum Gallery!

October 7th

Opening Saturday, September 12: Brittany Adeline King & Imani Campbell: “Ada”

Ptolemy is proud to present “Ada,” an exhibition of new work by New York-based artists Brittany Adeline King and Imani Campbell. Please join us for an opening reception at 6733 Central Ave on Saturday, September 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

Brittany Adeline King (b. 1995) is a Liberian and Nigerian artist, curator, and arts educator living and working in New York City. Her practice spans modes of girlhood through painting, collage, performance and installation. Her curatorial work extends on co-artist collaboration. And as an educator, King aims to expand youth arts education across West Africa.

Imani Campbell (b. 1995) is a folk artist born in New York and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, by way of the West Indies. Her practice spans quilting, doll-making, and puppetry arts—bridging textile and performance traditions as vessels for grounding her sense of belonging in the world. She works from her home in New York City. taken in Glendale, Queens by @ptolemy.world

Thank you to everyone who has come out so far to visit Paragon Park Observatory. Please join us tomorrow, July 25, for a sound performance by exhibiting artist John Roach at 4:00 PM.

Full documentation for the exhibition will be available in the coming days. In the meantime, the full list of participating artists can be viewed at www.ptolemy.world. The exhibition will be on view through August 16.

John Roach (@johnroachart ) is an interdisciplinary artist with a particular interest in sound and multisensory experience and he builds environments that blur the line between what we see and what we hear. His sound compositions often focus on themes related to ecological systems, biodiversity and climate and exist in a space between electroacoustic music, documentary and experimental radio art. These pieces, shaped by a playful embrace with uncertainty, bring together his field recording practice, instrumental passages, and conversations with artists, scientists, writers, historians and others. taken in Glendale, Queens by @ptolemy.world

Today’s opening reception for Paragon Park Observatory has been postponed to tomorrow, July 19, due to ongoing flood threats throughout the day. We hope to see you tomorrow afternoon.

I will still be at the gallery this afternoon in case anyone misses the message but I will be taking my time finishing the installation 🙂

Thank you to everyone for the support and hope to see you all tomorrow.
