As a registered charity, the Panavia Tornado Preservation Group ensures that the legacy of Tornado is preserved by educating and inspiring the next generation of aviators and engineers.

ZA326 was recently visited by three budding young pilots, who dream of one day joining the Red Arrows. As well as spotting Snoopy hiding in the LRMTS housing, they were thrilled to learn that one of our charity trustees is currently flying as Red 7, in his fourth season with their favourite aerobatic team. by @ptpg_org

The team were at the @southwalesaviationmuseum today. Big job was fitting the two 1500 litre drop tanks, which will now be painted Oxford Blue, to represent the tanks ZA326 flew with for the first half of her life.

Lots of other little tasks ticked off too - CB panels refitted, intake nav lights wired in, and our storage area at the museum reconfigured to allow for easier access.

Throwback to #2016

ZA326 was living outdoors at a very cold Bruntingthorpe Airfield in Leicestershire.

At this point we were still missing some pretty big pieces of the jigsaw, as the two RB199-shaped holes at the rear of the fuselage demonstrate.

However the rebuild continued, with the rudder being refitted for the first time in over a decade. Another milestone was filling the gearboxes with oil, a job done here by a young @olliesuckling before he became @raf_red7

Ten years on and 326 is complete and living indoors at the @southwalesaviationmuseum. More amazingly, that oil hasn't yet leaked out of the gearboxes! 😂 by @ptpg_org

A rather wet and energetic day at the South Wales Aviation Museum today. The cleaning of two 1500 litre drop tanks in readiness for them to be fitted to ZA326.

These tanks have sat outside for a considerable amount of time before being delivered to the museum just before Christmas.

Today @bombbayjohn with a little help from fellow volunteers put the tanks onto pallets and began the cleaning of them. A good wash and scrub with hot soapy water and then a gentle power wash with a battery powered pressure washer - they have come up really well.

The tanks have now been put inside the museum to dry out before the next stage in their transformation. by @ptpg_org

A few weeks ago, in order to make way for the @swam_st.athan Christmas Fayre, ZA326 and a few of her stablemates had a brief trip outside.

Paintwork gleaming in the (rare!) Welsh winter sunshine, she joined a lineup of Cold Warriors including Phantom FG.1 XV582/M "Black Mike", Tornado GR.4 ZA612, Jaguar GR.1 XX727 and Buccaneer S.2B XX889/T.

HOLD A PIECE OF HISTORY IN YOUR HAND

13th December 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of Tornado ZA326’s final flight.

To celebrate this milestone, the Panavia Tornado Preservation Group have used original airframe metal from ZA326 to create a limited edition run of 500 coins.

Featuring a unique design which includes the dates of ZA326’s first and last flights, each coin comes with an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity, and is delivered in a protective plastic pouch.

Each coin is 40mm in diameter, 3mm thick and weighs 9.3 grams – surprisingly light as they are cast from 100% aircraft aluminium.

Ever wondered what it's like to sit in the rear cockpit of Tornado ZA326 when the engines are started?

Whilst we're still a little way off firing up the RB199s, this clip filmed by Dave Best in 2001 gives a great idea of the sights and sounds as ZA326's right-hand engine is started.

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the first Tornado flight, and to celebrate, we've worked with @runway25shop to produce a special PVC patch.

Measuring 3.5" in diameter and velcro backed, the patch includes the registration of P.01, the first prototype, and the date of its maiden flight.
