Waves. ~ If y’all been following me lately, I been playing the amazing music of @braxton_cook since bout last year. This clip is from his headlining performance from @smartbomb_oakland festival at @sfjazz What I love about this opportunity is the amount of individual expression his music allows to paint the overall picture.

Brax’s also inspired this setup that I’ve been playing recently. I call it the Trifecta Snare setup, which is centered by my go-to main, my rolldawg @ludwigdrumshq 5x14 Supraphonic with the @soniquedrums NATO-1 Throw Off and Bead King Snare Adapter. The snare that I usually leave the splash on is often times the matching snare of the backline kit (which my preference is Luddies), and the deep snare in this vid is a 6.5x14 Supralite, which REALLY blew me away on how well it plays in that ballad tuning! People have mostly seen this setup in my stories, mostly when I take shots of the kit for the different dates that we’ve had.

Now I added this 3rd snare to my setup SPECIFICALLY for “No Doubt” because I wanted to replicate the energy from the record on the head of the tune. But what’s so special is that this one element added to the rig, completely inspires a different style of play for the rest of the set when using it as an auxiliary sound in normal play when in it isn’t primary to other songs in the show.
