Public Counsel is proud to stand in solidarity with our transgender and gender-expansive communities 🏳️‍⚧️

We joined @transequalitynow, Wiley Rein LLP, and medical, psychological, and scientific experts in filing an amicus brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold Washington state’s protections for transgender youth in shelters.

Our brief draws on peer-reviewed research about gender identity development and the importance of supportive care in protecting young people’s health and well-being.

As our Senior Counsel Tara Ford emphasizes, decisions about young people’s health and care must be informed by science, not misinformation that puts their well-being at risk.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear International Partners for Ethical Care, Inc. v. Ferguson on December 7, 2026. We urge the Court to affirm the Ninth Circuit’s ruling that the plaintiffs lack standing to bring this challenge.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: no one should be afraid to walk our streets because of the color of their skin or where they work.

Yet, for over a year, Angelenos have suffered through a regime of terror as DHS conducted operations detaining individuals based on their race or perception of being working-class, not reasonable suspicion of immigration violations.

Today, in a win for our constitutional rights and following extensive evidence revealed by the government’s own records, the court granted a preliminary injunction in our case, Vasquez Perdomo v. Mullin, blocking the administration from conducting these suspicion-less and racially discriminatory immigration stops in Southern California.

The court also certified a class of individuals who have been affected by this practice. We will closely monitor compliance with this court order and expect the federal government to abide by it. by @public_counsel

Today, we mourn the passing of Dolores Huerta, a beloved labor organizer, feminist icon, and lifelong champion for workers’ rights, immigrant communities, and gender equity.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, the United Farm Workers community, and all those whose lives she touched.

As the recipient of Public Counsel’s 2015 William O. Douglas Award, Dolores reminded us that the pursuit of justice is a collective effort. Her legacy lives on in the movements she helped build and the generations she inspired to organize, advocate, and demand a more just future.

In this moment from her acceptance speech, she led us in a call that will continue to resonate: “¡Sí, se puede!”

We are honored to carry forward this work in her memory. May her spirit of courage, solidarity, and possibility continue to guide us. by @public_counsel

Thank you to everyone who joined the LA Street Vendor Campaign partners for the first screening and panel discussion of Sidewalk Justice, a documentary by @apa_losangeles highlighting the history and the lasting impact of LA street vendors like Ofelia Ruiz.

For years, Public Counsel and our coalition partners have advocated alongside street vendors for the right to earn a living with dignity, helping advance policies that decriminalize street vending and expand economic opportunity across Los Angeles.

This movement is built on the leadership and persistence of vendors themselves.
