It's always great to receive such kind words from artists you admire and have looked up to for years.

We're in it for the love, through hell and high water we believe that the sound should be the main priority, not an afterthought. It should be free of distortion and kind on the ears,
full of sweetness and clarity.

We're only a small 100 cap room with a small budget, but you'll be instantly transported to another world. DJ's of irfans calibre that are about it and want to support (we can't pay the mental fees, this project is all self funded) drop us a message. taken in Gingerino's Kitchen by @publichousehifi

Tickets live at 10am on Resident Advisor.

We're delighted to welcome the one and only Mr. Scruff to Public House Hi-Fi for a special all-night-long session as part of his 2026 Miniature Arena Tour.

A true champion of musical exploration and one of the UK's most loved selectors, Mr. Scruff has spent over three decades bringing people together through his wonderfully eclectic approach to DJing. From jazz, soul and funk to disco, hip-hop, reggae, house, Afro and Latin sounds, his sets are a celebration of musical connections, curiosity and the joy of dancing. With an extraordinary record collection and an instinct for finding the right record at the right moment, no two journeys are ever quite the same.

For this one, Mr. Scruff takes control of our carefully tuned audiophile sound system for the entire evening, with the freedom to stretch out, explore and take the room wherever the music leads.

The Miniature Arena Tour celebrates the importance of independent grassroots venues, bringing the energy and spirit of Mr. Scruff's celebrated marathon sessions into smaller, more intimate spaces. With our capacity limited to just 100 people, we're looking forward to welcoming him into the loft for a particularly special evening of listening, dancing and musical discovery.

Part of his December Miniature Arena Tour, in support of @musicvenuetrust & @saveoursceneuk. £1 from each ticket will be donated to @livelinefund , supporting Grassroots Music Venues, Artists and Promoters. taken in Gingerino's Kitchen by @publichousehifi

Public House Hifi in Newcastle. Just the best time ever from start to finish!

Huge shouts to Vinny and Diz for inviting me to join them. Top people. Also to Jimmy and the Gingerinos crew for their background support too. Shout to Laine for a great job on the door. And of course all the lovely people on the dancefloor. Especially Joe, Helen and Joss.

What. A. Gaff.

1- the last tune. Tommy Musto and Lenny Dee MAGIC.
2- a message from me pre event
3- starting to warm up early doors
4- DJ booth porn
5- I had to soundcheck some unreleased material
6- George Oscar singing along to his fave tune was a moment
7- I’ve never dared play this Shingo Suwa tune. Until now. Ripped the place apart.
8- Warrior Queen into Nino
9- Diz and Vinny ‘we only make 1 poster now’
10- I will play Future Of Latin every time I can. taken in Gingerino's Kitchen by @publichousehifi

Newcastle takes its nights out seriously.

“You’re only as good as your last party.”

Inspired by their own experiences of Newcastle’s underground music culture, Vin and Diz created Public House Hi-Fi as a homage to their most memorable nights out, and the crisp sound and ritual of 70s hi-fi audio.

For the Mercury Prize Fringe, Vin and Diz are hosting Tommy Caulker for a special listening experience, where Tommy will play the records that have stayed with him throughout his life. From 6pm, Vin and Diz will take to the decks for a classic Public House Hi-Fi night. Bed by 12am.

Meet Vin and Diz.

Founders of Public House Hi-Fi - and two of our Local Heroes.

In the lead-up to @mercuryprize, we’re shining a light on the people behind Newcastle’s music scene who keep showing up, backing new music and making this city sing.

Inspired by early memories of Shindig’s and World Headquarters, Vin and Diz built Public House Hi-Fi to be a part of the legacy of Newcastle underground highlight.

“‘I don’t get how you can do a party in a pizza shop, doesn’t make sense; it’s not a club. I don’t understand how you can do parties early; nobody’s going to come. I don’t understand how you can do parties every week; people are going to get disinterested.’
We did it anyway.”
