✨️GIVEAWAY-CLOSED✨️

In May 2024 I learned I was pregnant with twins. My life has been a whirlwind since. Nothing could have prepared me for this journey. Our family spent 335 days in the NICU.

Crafting, books, and the kindness of others were some of the things that really made a difference.

It's important for me to pay it forward and support other NICU families currently experiencing the tumult of the NICU.

In an effort to raise funds and/or acquire donations for supplies I'm hosting a #giveaway

👻 Spooky Season Recs and Bookstack 👻

If you like thrillers, mysteries, and horror this post is for you!

I've read and enjoyed all of these books. It's a little bit of everything but perfect for this time of year.

Many of them are filled with thrills and chills, some will have you guessing whodunit, a few are even a little magical, while others will have you looking over your shoulders and sleeping with the lights on 🎃

Q: On November 1st do you kick off Christmas or embrace the Fall?

A: I start binging Christmas movies ⛄️

Somehow I found myself in 3 buddy reads and rotating between 5 or 6 books...

I just wanna read all the things with all the people, plus my mood 😭🤷🏾‍♀️

October has been heavy so this week I relaxed as much as I could and tried to be as intentional as possible with my time and energy ♡

Do we share any of the same reads this week, are they on your TBR, or have you already read them?

What's one thing you did to prioritize yourself?

Broken Country- At first I was like meh, but then it got messy and I'm nosey!

Ace of Spades- Different but I'm digging it.

Mazywood- I love that Joniece Abbott Pratt is narrating this one ♡

Shadow Carver- Excited to get this one started.

Happy Friday 🧡

I hope everyone had a good week!

If you are looking for a fast paced, action packed thrill ride sprinkled with a little romance and dazzle dazzle then check out The Lost Guardian by Natalia Hernandez. Based on the true history of Atahualpa, the last emperor of the Inca people, indie sensation Natalia Hernandez delivers a powerhouse romantasy adventure set in the modern day.

I love a good "Chosen One" trope, especially when the "Chosen One" wants no parts of it despite already being equipped with the tools for the job, they just need a little faith. Santi is the last guardian but he thinks the stories his grandfather told him are simply myths. When he meets a beautiful stranger who could be a friend or foe his world is turned upside down and he is in a race against time and mercenaries to find the clues to guard Atahualpa's tomb. This book is great for an immersive reading experience. I felt like I was a character in the book and not just a passerby.
Natalia did an amazing job with the history and research of this book. The nerd in me really appreciated that! If you like movies like Bad Boys, The Mummy, and Night at the Museum then give this book a try!

Thanks @hearourvoicestours and @jasminepics for the opportunity to share It's Only Dancing.
(pub date: 10/6/26)

It's Only Dancing is a cute YA romance. I love that it has all the things I adore in a YA book; feisty and expressive teens, a solid friend group, a little flirting, and shenanigans. I was not expecting such a powerful impact and social justice theme based on the cover but I'm here for it! This is a book I can definitely read with my 11 year old and have great discussion.

If you are looking for a fun and quick read with a side of FAFO check this book out.

I took belly dance (see last slide) straight out of undergrad to help me come out of my shell and I absolutely loved it! Made some amazing memories ♡

Q: What was a popular dance from your birth year or one song that will always get you on the dance floor?

A: The Electric Slide and Get Me Bodied 💃🏿

Thank you @hearourvoicestours and @authorrhondamcknight for the opportunity to be on this book tour...it's always a good time 💐

One thing Rhonda McKnight is going to do is write a book to make you feel at home. Writer in Residence is full of history, culture, and southern charm. I love that the FMC is in her late 30s to 40s and she is relatable.

Alex and Gabe are cute as can be! He is book boyfriend material and I imagine him as Lamman Rucker. Although I enjoyed the romance, the found family stole my heart. Writer in Residence was a refreshing read. The author's writing feels like a warm hug. I thought about baked macaroni and cheese along with pound cake the entire time!

I love a feel good book with deep conversations and people who are truly rooting for you. Extra brownie points for kids being loved on and protected by the adults around them 🥰

Thank you @bibliolifestyle @harperperennial for this #gifted copy of Tangled Webs x @calliecoles

Pub Date: 8/11/26

I love this book cover and am excited to check out a new author.

SYNOPSIS:

To the outside world, Sage Deverill has it all. In truth, her marriage is a gilded cage.

When Sage flees from her marriage at a crumbling Panamanian estate, she takes her young son to the only place that has ever felt like home: her grandparents’ estate in Newmarket, the beating heart of the racing world in the British countryside. Surrounded by ivy-clad walls, the kindness of her family and the thunder of hooves on the heath, Sage reconnects with the place, people and creatures she loves most.

Riding beneath the wide Suffolk skies, Sage encounters Rafe Dunbarton—an ambitious, intriguing racehorse trainer with a gentle soul. What begins as friendship soon becomes an irresistible pull between two people who never expected to find each other.

But just as Sage rediscovers her freedom, her past returns in a tangle of destruction and lies and she is forced to decide how much she is willing to risk for her future . . .

For fans of Broken Country and The Heir Apparent, the first book in Callie Coles’ Spinning Silks trilogy—a sweeping love story about a woman trapped by a dangerous past, and the man who may offer a chance at hope and healing, in the lush Suffolk countryside.

Q: What is your favorite book cover style (illustrated, people on cover, landscape, etc)?

I read across many genres of Black authors and have felt safe in any "hood" I've been dropped off in!

To say you don't like a genre or author...cool. But to simply lump all books by Black authors in the self appointed genre of unsafe and hood is simply asinine!

Hi crew!

The 'Ber months are almost here, making it the perfect time for crafting and reading 🍂

To bring some cozy vibes and cheer to families spending the holiday season in the hospital, 2livenicucrew is hosting a "Books, Beanies, and Blankets" event for Lurie Children’s NICU. This cause is very close to my heart; during our stay there in 2024, I spent a lot of time crocheting and reading to my girls, and I love the idea of babies being nice and cozy while enjoying a book.

Here are the details on how you can help:

- What: Books, hats, and blankets.

- How: You can crochet, knit, sew, purchase items directly from our Amazon wishlist, or donate via Cash App or Zelle.

- When: The deadline for contributions is 11/13/26.

Please see the attached flyer for more extensive details.

Thank you!

Marita

Would you rather read outdoors under the sun or indoors while it rains? by @pulchri2ude

"Feed us. We are hungry."

Will you answer the call of the Marassa Jumeaux...and at what cost!?

I was sat reading this book! Like wow! And I loved the text set up; the letters, chat room entries, and emails.

The Inevitable Undoing of Zahara Douglass has a little bit of everything: mystery, suspense, historical fiction, deities, magic, and mercenaries. Didn't see the chosen one trope coming but here we are!

This is like if MIB and the Matrix had a baby and that person married a person whose parents are the twilight zone and y2k in the Bermuda triangle! It also gives X-Men vibes...Just otherworldly. There was so much depth and nuance. This is a book I'd love to read again for the first time ♡

My nerd brain enjoyed this very much! Like I didn't want to stop reading. I'm typically a slow to average reader but I was flying through this one. Responsibilities be damned 😆

Do yourself a favor and check this one out 📚

Easily 5 ✨️

Thanks @coloredpagesbt @orbitbooks_us @leslyepenelope for the opportunity to review this book ♡

On this day in 1990 the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed!

I am familiar with disability from both a professional and personal lens.

Sometimes disability is invisible and in my experience not taken seriously 💔

Here are a few book recs (and books on my TBR) that I have enjoyed...

Read them now...read them forever!
