Written for a dear friend

Progress

The kestrel trills
Backlit in a parched sky
This mound was once the tallest
Now a dwarf among the dunes

These shifts are measured in grains
Moved by wind, chance, choice
Howling tendrills of air or
A kiss long and soft as the familiar din

Footsteps marked in blood
Held in Love the infancy of my resolve
That quake in my belly
The quavery vowels when thoughts
tremble from my throat

The gull squawks
Riding on a tidal breeze
The next anthem to compose
Of an ocean thunderous and grit
To tear my flesh and bare me anew by @punchkeypoetry

One of my favorites from this summer. Fellow writer was in love with her pencils. I feel ya !

Poem Text:

The solitude of a desk lamp
the profound silence of canyons
the heart wrenching gravity of unrequited words.

Such universe
treadded by wood and graphite, be it a scratch like a familiar record
a scar from the pressure of quavery vovel
and lips that would not for fear they may be inarticulate.

Their remains its companions, parchment,
napkins, margins, the backs of tax forms in the hopes thes that words will remain more defining than numbers.

My silent companion contains multitudes
its voice in any language we convey
Its soft whisper across the page
telling us that the quiet
places is where we are
sharpened. by @punchkeypoetry

😣😢An 11 year old asked for ‘disappointed’ when I asked why, he solemnly looked me in the eyes and said, “my father is leaving us”

Shattering.

I do not have the answers. In ways, this young man knows more about the challenges of life than I ever will.

Weeks later, the boys mentor told me that the mother was asking the boy to read this poem to himself again and again.

Stoic moments have their place, the quiet solemnity of stars sharing their beam. I am remembering my bliss like a coal recalls the shape of flame. How it dances like rain of heavens and the names we give to the arrangements of galaxies. Next to our light they are dripping like the wax of memories gathering like pools we have made by the warmth of homes and tears we’ve melted together, shared these colors as they streak across celestial musings. Where I have found myself unmade and as no one.
