All aboard! Last Thursday, artist Raque Ford unveiled her intervention, created specifically for the two elevators in the Fridericianum rotunda. Now visitors can enjoy extraordinary art even while riding the elevator – but even if you prefer taking the stairs, it’s worth taking a peek inside the time capsules, that were designed to resemble a now-closed discount store in Brooklyn!

Alles einsteigen! Am vergangenen Donnerstag eröffnete die Künstlerin Raque Ford ihre eigens für die beiden Aufzüge in der Rotunde des Fridericianum entwickelte Intervention. Nun haben die Besuchenden sogar während ihres Fahrstuhlaufenthalts die Möglichkeit, außergewöhnliche Kunst zu genießen – aber auch für Treppensteigende lohnt sich ein Blick in die nach dem Vorbild eines mittlerweile geschlossenen Discount-Shops in Brooklyn gestalteten Zeitkapseln!

Raque Ford is a self-described crybaby, a childhood tease that she has come to own in adulthood. Her work, with all its bright streaks of color and glimmering tinted film, acts as a kind of exposure therapy, putting on display taunts and flattery, former jobs and a penchant for “The Real Housewives.” In discussing her work, Qingyuan Deng points out how one is “hailed and heckled by dramatically shifting scales” in the artist’s work, pointing to the narrative prowess that underwrites it all.

Intervention at the Fridericianum, Kassel

Layered up like collages, Raque Fords works combine sculpture, painting, and graphics and reference the cutouts of the late Henri Matisse, Minimalism, and Pop Art. At the Fridericianum, the artist is creating designs for both public elevators.

Good Weather will participate in Post-Fair with a presentation of Raque Ford.

Raque Ford (b. 1986 Columbia, Maryland) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Solo exhibitions and public commissions include Greene Naftali (New York), Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), Kunstverein Gartenhaus, (Vienna), Good Weather (Chicago), The Print Center, (Philadelphia), Gianni Manhattan (Vienna), MoMA PS1 (New York), and 321 Gallery (New York), among others. Significant group shows include White Columns (New York), Buffalo AKG Art Museum (Buffalo), Greater New York at MoMA PS1 (New York), and SculptureCenter (New York). Ford’s work is in the collections of the High Museum of Art (Atlanta), The Museum of Modern Art (New York), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York). Forthcoming, she will open a site-specific intervention at the Fridericianum (Kassel) in March 2026 and a solo exhibition in Mike Kelley’s Mobile Homestead at Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) in February 2027.

I’m doing a glitter monotype demo next Saturday 11/15 at the Robert Blackburn exhibition at the James gallery at CUNY from 1 to 3 . Maybe I will wear this outfit. Also woke up with this song in my head. by @punkraque
