To warm up the floor tonight, we invited @c.b_i.d for the first time for PUR. Here’s what he had to say:

“My main goal is always to keep a level of funkiness to it, wether im playing something softer and slower or more grindy, full on, and fast, I always like a bit of a groove, hence being so drawn to dub techno and hardgroove. Im not one for traditional big rave techno, and I tend to steer more towards newer stuff, sometimes throwing songs in a set that have only been out for a matter of days. I have been obsessed with this genre for years, and I like to try and put that on display.”

If you’ve been with PUR for a long time, @hunter__hts should be no stranger to you.

Raised in Kaikōura, Hunter has had a drive for discovering obscure music. It wasnt until moving to Ōtautahi as a teenager where she was introduced to techno from local underground parties. From then on, her relationship with music changed.

Hunter began DJing in 2022 before moving to the UK/EU for 2 years where she fell in love with the clubbing culture within techno music. After moving back home and beginning her first clubnight Hang the Saints, she shaped and sharpened her sound to demonstrate the possibilities within the genre. She moves freely across the techno spectrum, incorporating deep, tension driven sounds, dark atmospheres, punchy low ends and ritualistic drums into her sets.

After some time becoming a well respected DJ/Promoter in her scene she gained residency at well known club night/label HAVEN. Being a resident has given her many opportunities like opening for DJ Ali, Eli Høff, Keepsakes and EBB. Hunter has continued to build her presence across Aotearoa, performing at festivals including Twisted Frequency, Two Minds Festival, Port Noise, Kōwhai Grove and Lakes Festival.
Through her dedication, she has recently appeared in Berlin’s infamous live stream HÖR and Bristol-based radio show Noods Radio. taken in Wellington, New Zealand by @pur.collective

Meet Chole!

The Ōtautahi-based Dj and producer has been building a name for herself through festivals, bush doofs, and rave spaces across Aotearoa and you can catch her for a 2-hour set this Saturday!

She is also releasing a three track EP this Friday. Chole mentions she drew inspiration from the cycles of nature, produced around pulsing, growing rhythms and 150bpm techno pressure.

Opening the night for his debut appearance behind the decks is Adjoint, bringing rolling, patient and slowly evolving techno selections built around momentum and tension.

Ōtautahi’s Chole has quickly built a reputation for vibrant, high-energy sets balancing industrial pressure with deep hypnotic groove. A sound which was shaped through festivals, bush doofs and rave culture alike.

They will be joined by PUR’s own Flipit.

We’re back on Saturday 27/06 for our second event this month, continuing the momentum from the last dance floor.

For this edition, we welcome another artist from Ōtautahi continuing to connect the underground scene across Aotearoa. Alongside them, we’re also introducing a new DJ to the PUR booth, opening space for fresh DJs and new energy within the lineup.

The focus remains the same: deep, driving, percussive techno, strong sound, and a dance floor built on respect, movement, and connection.

This Saturday! @valerie_ace_ leads the late night cardio session.

The Berlin-based DJ, producer,label owner, and engineer Valerie Ace has become one of the most exciting forces in contemporary techno.
Her career took off in 2021 with her debut EP on SPFDJ’s revered Intrepid Skin imprint, followed by a boiler room set in 2022 and releases across some of the scene’s most respected labels, including KAOS, Mama Told Ya, Boys Noize Records, RAW, HAVEN, and more.

Behind the decks you can expect a 4-deck approach mixing her own productions and unreleased material into sets that move between harder, high-pressure techno and a more classic dub techno sound shaped by Berlin and Detroit influences.

With appearances at major techno institutions such as Tresor Berlin, Fold London, RSO, Stone Techno Festival, OIL Shenzhen, and tours spanning Montreal, Mumbai, Beijing, and beyond, Valerie now lands in Pōneke as part of her NZ run.

Keepsakes, the alias of British-New Zealand producer and DJ James Barrett, has been a strong and distinctive voice in techno since rising to fame through his Stygian Concrete Works and Weapons Grade Manic EPs back in 2014. Since then he has showcased his powerful and menacing, yet often cheeky and playful, productions on influential labels including Boys Noize Records, Turbo Recordings, KAOS/OAKS, Perc Trax, South London Analogue Material, MORD, and Earwiggle.

Furthermore, he founded the Haven club night alongside Jaded Nineties Raver in Tamaki Maraukau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand) in 2015 - aiming to introduce clubbers to the experimental and harder side of techno in a city completely devoid of this music. In 2018 Haven also expanded into a vinyl-focused record label - going on to release many leading international artists including VTSS, Tommy Holohan, New Frames, Peder Mannerfelt, Ayarcana, Ansome, and Ryan James Ford, as well as becoming the main home for Barrett’s own productions.

Now located in Otautahi, Aotearoa (Christchurch, New Zealand) - following several years living in Berlin hitting the European club circuit - he is focused on bringing his tough and eclectic sound to dance floors worldwide, with regular appearances at international techno institutions, including Tresor, RSO, and London’s Fold, providing a platform for his formidable DJ sets.
