The PAW 2026 brochures have landed👏🏼👏🏼

We are very excited to announce that the brochures for this years festival are printed and are being distributed ready to be picked up from local outlets across Purbeck!

We love the blue tones of the cover artwork from @anneeasterbrooke this year 😍

The brochure has also been brilliantly pulled together with amazing graphic design from @louiselefflerdesign !

🎥 CREATIVE OPPORTUNITY – VIDEOGRAPHER / FILMMAKER 🎥

Want to tell the story of an ambitious arts project from the inside?

Purbeck Art Weeks is looking for a student or emerging filmmaker, videographer or creative documentarian to follow the journey of “Made by the Sea” – our major new community project exploring ocean waste, creativity and environmental awareness.

From the first ideas and conversations, through sculpture-making and school workshops, to the finished immersive exhibition, you’ll capture the people, stories, creativity, learning and moments that bring the project to life.

This isn't simply about filming finished artworks. It's about following the journey. Capturing the moments. Telling the story.

We're looking for someone curious, observant and excited by the opportunity to create a meaningful visual story of sea, creatives and our environmental challenges. You will work alongside artists, schools, young people and the public, so sensitivity, respect and a genuine interest in people are important.

No extensive professional experience required – just creativity, reliability, sensitivity and a passion for telling a great story.

🎵🌊 CREATIVE COMMISSION OPPORTUNITY – SOUND ARTIST / COMPOSER / MUSICIAN 🎵🌊

Can you create the sound of our ever-changing ocean for an exhibition?

Purbeck Art Weeks is looking for a sound artist, composer or musician to create an original immersive soundscape for “Made by the Sea” – our ambitious community arts project exploring ocean waste, creativity and environmental awareness.

We aren't looking for a traditional soundtrack. We want to create an ever-changing sonic environment – a layered combination of music, natural sounds, textures and subtle rhythms that continually flows and evolves throughout the exhibition.

Think of the sounds of the sea: tides shifting, currents moving, waves building and receding, debris drifting, life moving beneath the surface. These sounds should feel organic, atmospheric and meditative.

The aim is to create a calming, reflective environment that encourages visitors to slow down, listen and become immersed in the exhibition.

There may also be opportunities to explore how live or recorded vocal and instrumental musicians could become part of the evolving soundscape, reflecting PAW's wider identity as an integrated Arts & Music Festival.

We're looking for someone with imagination, curiosity and a willingness to experiment – someone excited by the idea of sound becoming part of an immersive exhibition where sculpture, artwork and stories come to life.

This is an opportunity to experiment, collaborate and create something genuinely different – with your work becoming an integral part of a major community arts installation.

Don't compose music for the exhibition. Create the soundscape that is the exhibition. 🎧

✨ Meet the PAW team ✨

Next up in our spotlight is Ian - Visual Arts & Publicity trustee & Deputy Chair!

Many of you may also know him as one half of the wonderful Galiani Glass Art @iangodfrey_galianiglassart 🎨

Hear from Ian below -

"So, how did I end up as a PAW trustee? Well, it's been a rather winding road!

I joined PAW about 18 months ago because I wanted to help represent our artists and champion the visual arts of Purbeck. I've been exhibiting with PAW for almost 10 years, so it already felt a part of my artistic life. What I hadn't realised was just how much work goes on behind the scenes to make PAW happen. Our trustees work incredibly hard throughout the year, often without anyone seeing what they're doing. I'm genuinely amazed – and slightly in awe – of their commitment to the life of Purbeck Art Weeks Festival.

My own career has taken many unexpected turns. At 16, I started life as an apprentice hot-metal compositor (look it up – it's a fascinating bit of printing craftsmanship). From there I moved into print production, including running operations in London and New York, before spending years, in my own business, working with organisations and businesses across the UK to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

And then, eventually, I found glass. I've now been working as an artist, with my amazing partner Gail for 17 years, and I've discovered that being an artist is way more complicated than simply making things you like! There's the studio, materials, equipment, exhibitions, sales, marketing, finances and all the other things that somehow have to be fitted around actually making the work. Then there's the creative side – experimenting, trying new ideas, getting things wrong, trying again, dealing with criticism and, thankfully, occasionally having someone tell you they absolutely love what you've made. And, of course, plenty of our Purbeck artists have a job alongside all of this.” (Continued in comments)

✨ Meet the PAW team ✨

Today we are shining the spotlight on another member of our team - Emma-Louise @elouisa 🎊

Emma-Louise is a trustee and responsible for a huge amount of integral work behind the scenes here at PAW - she may be best known for managing and processing our artist & open studio applications alongside running the website!

Hear more about what Emma-Louise does for PAW, alongside her passion for art and ceramics below-

"I'm Emma-Louise Grinsted, Visual Arts Trustee for PAW. I run all the behind the scene Membership stuff, Exhibition Applications, Rollington stock and sales organisations (but not the money bit!) and both the main website and the Members website.

I'm part of PAW because I was invited by Judy Tate, (a past Trustee), to exhibit at her Open Studio in 2015 as she knew that I was a lapsed artist and she wanted me to get going again! I helped her set up the PAW Instagram account in 2016, then took over as secretary and became a trustee in 2017. I'm very grateful to Judy for getting me back into making art as it allows me a breathing space in my life where I can escape, unwind and restore myself. I hope that by being part of PAW I can pass this positivity on to others.

As well as being part of PAW, I work full time in a local school, so I don't get a huge amount of time to make art but when I do I make ceramics, print, paint and work in textiles.

We have some very ambitious plans for next year including something amazing for Purbeck Young Artists, I'm very much looking forward to seeing how it turns out!"

✨ Meet the PAW team ✨

Next up in our team spotlight - Hannah, our Director of Music @hannah.m.ely 🎶

Hannah is responsible for curating and organising the brilliant and diverse music acts that we showcase at the PAW festival every year - all alongside being a musician herself!

Hear from her below -

"I grew up in Purbeck, and I love bringing exceptional artists and imaginative performances to this very special corner of Dorset.

I programme the festival's music events: finding artists, developing creative collaborations and helping to shape each year's programme.

Much of my life revolves around performing, programming and creating new projects, with a particular focus on early music. I love delving into our history and bringing it to life through music. When I'm not making music, I occasionally pick up a paintbrush. I'm very much an amateur, but I find that my brain enters a similar state whether I'm making art or music.

I love welcoming our visiting performers and sharing this wonderful festival - and such a beautiful part of the country - with them."

This International Charity Day, we wanted to celebrate our work with local young people ✨👏

Through our Purbeck Young Artists scheme, we help bring creative workshops into local classrooms - giving children the opportunity to explore their creativity, build confidence and express themselves through art.

As part of PYA this year we have:

🌱 Worked with all schools in the Purbeck area (15 primary, 3 secondary and 2 alternative providers)

🌱 Worked with over 500 students

🌱 Worked with 7 artists to facilitate workshops

🌱 Helped 38 students try performing arts through singing workshops and the Whispering Dome performance

A huge thank you to Sophie Jenkins (@sophiejenkinsart ) and other members of the PAW team, the artists, our wonderful sponsors and the schools for helping to facilitate these workshops and help us to encourage creativity to flourish 🎨

We can't wait for 2027!

✨ Meet the PAW team ✨

Whilst we are busy working towards the next Purbeck Art Weeks, we wanted to spotlight some of our ‘behind the scenes’ team 🙌

First up - Clara (@paintedsoulstudio) the face behind our social media!

“I love being a part of PAW, as I believe that getting people involved in art and spreading creativity is an incredibly important cause. I particularly love getting out and about to visit the open studios - meeting the artists and seeing their process behind what they make is very rewarding and eye-opening.

I run the social media for PAW - I am usually creating content, engaging with our online community and will be the person you hear from if you message us or comment!

Outside of PAW, I work in marketing at Dorset Wildlife Trust and am keen on birdwatching and wildlife friendly gardening. I also run my own creative business as a signwriter! This is a practice that has developed over the last few years and I am never happier than with a paintbrush and mahl stick in my hand. I have painted on many objects - my most recent favourite being a vintage American pick-up truck 🛻

I am very excited for PAW 2027 - it’s shaping up to have some very interesting new elements. I am also excited to see the range of art and artists we have apply this year, particularly through our new young artists scheme!”
