When the rule of law dies; Democracy gasps its last breath, order is replaced by obedience, the Constitution is a suggestion and tyranny is born.

Is the Executive Branch openly defying the courts? by @purecreole

Once upon a time, I begrudgingly answered a call for the oppressed in Iraq under the guise of Americas fear of terror. Now, that very real terror is not only coming from within, but shining brightly and proudly on display. This time, I am unwaveringly answering the call and not for our country’s sake - our country is lost - for humanity’s sake. For doing what’s right even at the cost of personal loss. by @purecreole

Decided to start a run of posts for things that I appreciate and that bring me joy. First of many is this gem. My favorite animated Disney film from Childhood, Alice in Wonderland.

My family and I lost out precious Grammie. I literally cannot think of a single instance or memory of negativity where this amazing woman was concerned. I can only remember love and laughter! She helped me to see what a loving family should look like and be. She also helped to define my culture. From teaching me how to cook and describing in great detail how all of my many cousins and extended family are all related to me, she resonated with a Creole flair from a generation where family was something that constantly surrounded you; and was not lived over the Internet. She didn’t use social media or have a Smart Phone, so if you can imagine, when you were in her company she was 💯 engaged with you and deeply intentional with her exchanges.

When I was a young man and a teenager, we used to share special outings together. She would take me to the movies, close to where she lived in Los Angeles to see the latest Schwarzenegger films! The action and profanity used to make her yelp with disapproval and I would laughed at her reactions, but she always wanted to go see those pictures with me as a way for us to connect. As a man, we would spend much of our time and conversations discussing food and family and her life growing up in New Orleans. Saying she’ll be missed would be a gross insult. I’m gonna have to learn how to live with this hole in my heart.

I’m so thankful that my family and I were able to spend one last beautiful day together with her. Listening to her jams, telling stories & jokes and getting the sweetest kisses goodbye from her. May we all be as blessed.
