The zeroth law of thermodynamics states that if two systems are each in thermal equilibrium with a third system, then they are in thermal equilibrium with each other, which is what allows temperature to be defined and measured. The first law of thermodynamics teaches that energy cannot be created or destroyed but only transferred or transformed, meaning the total energy of an isolated system remains constant. The second law of thermodynamics explains that in any natural process, the total entropy of an isolated system tends to increase, which is why heat flows from hotter objects to cooler ones, why no process is perfectly efficient, and why systems naturally move toward disorder over time. ¹ My son, pay attention to my wisdom, turn your ear to my words of insight,
