I’m 43 and embarrassed to admit that…

1. i’m unmarried, divorced, no kids, no house, none of the things i thought i’d have by now. i don’t regret those decisions, but i sometimes reflect on what my life would look like if i did have those things

2. i’ve been in design for 15+ years and i still get nervous before every discovery call. i still wonder if i’m actually good enough.

3. i don’t have a formal business background. i’m learning finance and sales and strategy as i go, mostly by trial and error.

4. some weeks i seriously think about getting a normal job again. just to make the doubt stop for a while.

5. I rarely check my personal account or fb. in my 30s i started a design & art account because i couldn’t handle comparing my life to everyone else’s. hiding in the work felt easier than being seen.

6. my home office looks like a tornado went through it. i’m building this business and i haven’t had it in me to clean.

7. i’m scared to post. the internet can be a mean place. but my friends and family network isn’t going to carry this business forever.

8. Even when I’m exhausted, there’s this voice in my head telling me I haven’t done enough.

I’m not trying to be perfect. just figuring it out, one client and one post at a time.

undervalued and overworked → finally working on my own terms

Friendly reminder that you don’t have to wait for someone else to see your worth before you claim it yourself. i spent years being underpaid and overstretched, telling myself that was just what having a career looked like. it wasn’t. it was just what settling looked like. if you’re still waiting for permission to want more, this is me saying you don’t need it. go build the thing that’s actually yours.
