Last night I had dinner with Bob & Mike at @beewali_vegan_af
It was delicious! Highly recommend!
Bee is the co-owner with her husband Wali and she waited on us and couldn’t have been nicer! They have an incredible origin story and are truly what it means to live your best life on your own terms! The restaurant itself is adorable located in the Eagle Rock area of LA… and its family run.. which is amazing.. you can feel the love.
I had the @jackiebeat burger of course & it rocked

My dad passed today just shy of 87. His father passed away when dad was only 3 or 4 years old, setting the stage for a rough childhood. He always said that he didn’t have a childhood.. he was tasked with caring for his brother and took that responsibility seriously at an age when nothing should be serious. Born in New Rochelle NY, Immigrant Italian families stick together and he was surrounded by a plethora of relatives that informed his life. He went to seminary and then Fordham University, working at his Uncle’s gas station/garage as a mechanic & pumping gas throughout both tenures. He was the first in his family to graduate from college. He was a chemist, landing a job at RCA in Pa where he met Mom. He adopted my eldest sister without hesitation when they married. Working his way up the corporate ladder we moved around a lot and ultimately landed in S Cali and a long tenure at Memorex. His intelligence was in proportion to the coping mechanisms he developed as a child.. both making him difficult to get close to. We clashed as only two Geminis can from my early years on and there were long stretches of time as an adult that I estranged myself from him. The last 5 years my siblings and I noticed some odd behavior and forgetfulness. Two years ago my brother Tony and I began to visit to assess what was going on and ultimately a year ago he was diagnosed with dementia. He lived alone and said he wanted no help but in reality he was very fortunate to have a group of very kind and caring neighbors looking out for him. I started to go down for weekly visits and he began to accept my help. A lot of events in that year’s time that I weathered along with him.. but the last several months he allowed for peaceful pleasant moments between us that I’m glad I got to experience with him. He was always thankful for my help. This last month and half was rough on him and all of us but he is finally, thankfully at rest.

I’m sure everyone is gutted seeing all the fire devastation posts.. apologies for adding to it. Just a quicky to say we are incredibly grateful to the firefighters who stopped the Sunset fire. We packed the cars and were waiting for traffic to die down (mainly because we were both low on fuel/electricity, and didn’t want to bog down in traffic) These photos are our view from my massage therapy office. We were lucky to see first hand that the fire was being doused and was diminishing. We ultimately decided to stay put and by the time we were ready for bed Runyon was dark and the wind was nil, so we allowed ourselves to shelve flight/fight and get much needed sleep. Thanks to our friends who offered refuge and those that reached out with concern. It was bolstering knowing so many people were pulling for us.
A number of friends lost everything. Heartbreaking to say the least & we’re all still in shock.

Not a sympathy post.. more like a SOLIDARITY post.. I know so many people currently going through health struggles.. probably mostly because of our age and it just comes with the territory BUT to share this so we stand together..that none of us feel we are alone in this old boat cascading down the rapids is the point of this post.
Back in May I did a number on my shoulder.. bound to happen after a lifetime of weightlifting and nearly 30 years of leaning into people doing massage. Two full tears of rotator cuff supra & infra spinatus tendons. I had the surgical repair a week ago (thank you Dr Tibone) and my follow up appointment today. Sutures out and everything looks great! I’m one of the lucky ones in that I’ve had minimal pain.. Dr said in his 30 year career he’s seen only 2 others like me. Whatever the reason.. I am grateful! It’ll be a while in this arm sling and then on to physical therapy!
Anyhow, those that know me well also know I’m not a huge sharer on here.. I’ve been through some serious shit and didn’t mention it online. In person I am very open about my widow maker heart attack in 2016.. sharing is caring and can literally save a life.. that’s why I’d talk about it.. the random symptoms we don’t necessarily hear about etc.. And the same goes here with my current situation. We are in this together.. everybody’s got something going on.. and if you don’t, that’s amazing! Be grateful for it!

We celebrated my Mom Judy in Lititz Pa on March 24 2024. Family and friends came together to share our love for this remarkable human. We laughed, cried, danced and most importantly honored her wonderful life. She made it clear she didn’t want a depressing memorial when she passed. She said “It’s been a fun life” and that’s truly how she lived.. she always managed to have fun through the ups & downs of life.. a lesson we all should take to heart. The sweaters my sibs & I are wearing in the first shots were knitted by Mom.. treasured symbols of her love. Nearly the whole family was together for her.. a rare wonderful occurrence. We reminisced, ate, laughed, and met new babies! It was joyful and heartbreaking.
