Porsche just consolidated Sonderwunsch and Manthey Racing under a new umbrella: the “Home of Sports Cars.”

The goal? A 6x increase in revenue from bespoke options and track-focused hardware packages. Instead of selling more cars, Porsche is finding new ways to extract six-figure option bills from their most loyal customers.

Would you pay a massive premium for a factory Sonderwunsch allocation, or has modern option pricing gotten out of hand?

The Porsche Mission S is a mid-engine concept supercar that slots above the 911.

Porsche calls the design a new form language: a low roofline, fenders that sit higher than the hood, and a rear that pays tribute to the 917. What do you think of the design? Take a vote below. 🔗 to full video in bio.

Porsche isn’t becoming Ferrari—the numbers prove it.

While Ferrari protects exclusivity by selling only 14,000 cars a year at 30% operating margins (€520,000 revenue per car), Porsche still moves 280,000 vehicles at an 8% margin.

Even with a lower break-even point of 200,000 units, Porsche produces 15 to 20 times more cars than Maranello. But don’t be fooled: they are borrowing heavily from the Ferrari playbook by cutting base trims and leaning on hyper-expensive customization to drive profits.

Why did Detroit, suppliers, and dealers ask Washington to ban Chinese automakers—even if they build factories in the U.S. and pay American wages?

Because the threat isn’t cheap shipping. It’s a 30% to 50% structural efficiency gap.

After 15 years of vertical integration across batteries, motors, and silicon, a Chinese automaker could pay U.S. factory wages and still sell a profitable $25,000 EV in a domestic market where the average transaction price is stuck at $48,000.

That is why the geography test is dead.

A car built in South Carolina by American workers was just barred from sale in the United States.

Its platform-mate, built on the exact same assembly line, under the same parent company, was approved.

For a century, trade policy was simple: stamp the steel in America, hire American workers, and your car was considered domestic. Under the Commerce Department’s Connected Vehicle Rule (15 CFR 791), that rule is gone.

Volvo could prove its cloud data and telemetry ran on Western servers. Polestar’s digital nervous system was hardwired into Geely’s architecture in Hangzhou.

The assembly line didn’t decide the outcome. The software architecture did.

Touchscreens aren’t luxury—they are a manufacturing cost cut.

Tooling physical switches, tactile dampeners, and routing wiring harnesses through an assembly line is expensive. Sourcing a single supplier glass screen costs a couple hundred dollars.

Carmakers take that exact same screen, drop it into a $30K compact or an $80K SUV, and charge you $3,500 for a “convenience package” just so you can turn on your heated seats.

Save this for your next trip to the dealership.

1 out of every 4 problems reported in new cars now comes directly from the infotainment screen.

Automakers spent the last decade telling us cars were becoming “smartphones on wheels” that would improve with software updates. But J.D. Power data shows the exact opposite: while engines, transmissions, and mechanical parts get more reliable, dashboard screens get worse right off the lot.

POLL: What is the single most infuriating screen problem in your car?

Drop your number [1, 2, 3, or 4] and your car’s year/model below.

In the 1990s, Japanese automakers didn’t sell all their cars under one roof. Dealerships were split by socioeconomic class.

If you were a senior executive or bank director buying from a Nissan Motor Store, you bought the Cedric—formal chrome, rectangular headlights, and chauffeur styling.

But if you went to a Nissan Prince Store (where the Skyline was sold), you bought the Gloria: quad-round headlights, dark trim, and a suspension tuned for high-speed grand touring.

Two completely different design philosophies on the exact same chassis.

Which side of the rivalry are you on: the quad-round Gloria or the formal Cedric?
