Yoooo timoun, I am commissioned by the Adobe Creative Residency @adobedrawing to create an original artwork based on a subject of my choice, on the @adobe Fresco App, which is soooo smooth and offers me so much power to create what I want. Working on this app feels more than liberating. Sooo, you may be wondering who this goddess is ahahYou already know how much your boy digs story-telling, especially the ones inspired by Haitian Vodou. So again and again, I let myself float into our folklore, our sacred treasure. I illustrated a Vodou Spirit. The one that I created is actually imaginary and based on two of the most prominent LOAS.I called her "LANNWIT". She is the spirit of the night, the child birthed in the Artibonite River, by the eternal love between the Sun and the Moon and her very presence is the night itself.Her reflection can be seen in the rivers at night and her energy fills the air with love, sweet melancholia and passion when the sun sets. During New Moons and first crescents of each month, she wanders out of the rivers pouring her calming mood on Haitian towns.When Lannwit was a young bubble of light, she taught crickets their night melody and now they use this song to attract females crickets and charm our ears at night. Her mystery creates love atmosphere for lovers and she preserves the memory of the elders, so they can tell beautiful stories at night.At dawn, when she has to leave, her tears of joy make Morning Dew. Different from the usual morning dew since it shows all of the color of the Rainbow.This rainbow symbolizes her mother and father who are, in Haitian Vodou : The rainbow Loa Ayida Wèdo, who is the Moon and the snake Loa Damballah Wèdo, who is the Sun. The deities of wisdom, prosperity and fertility.•Creating her has reminded me how we, as haitians, are so connected to nature, its mysteries and how we celebrate creation and existence with a lot of passion and devotion.••Prints are kindly waiting for you on the link in my bio, if you are interested on purchasing one.
