The Next Web published a piece that features some of the work happening around developer communities and AI, including what we’ve been building with Coffee & Code Philadelphia.

The angle is simple: even with all the momentum around AI, a lot of meaningful progress is still coming from small, consistent communities where people are actually building together.

Less theory, more doing.

"SHUT UP AND SHIP A PR!"

Appreciate the spotlight on what grassroots, community-driven spaces can turn into over time.

Still feel like I'm underperforming in capacity compared to my glory days. I wonder if I'm ever able to forgive myself for being weak and useless when it was demanded of me to be a god like titan. You are either the god almighty or to be condemned to utter shame and disdain.

Those were the good times. by @pysolver33

Yesterday, Claude Code Philly took over the coffee shop. ☕️💻

Developers came together with their laptops, projects, and plenty of curiosity to build with Claude Code, exchange ideas, troubleshoot problems, and learn from one another.

The best part? Participants were already meeting potential teammates and forming teams for the Coffee & Code Philadelphia AI Agent Hackathon on September 20. 🤖

That is exactly why we host these gatherings: not only to learn new tools, but to create the connections that turn ideas into working projects.

No long presentations—just focused building, spontaneous conversations, and people helping one another ship.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We’re excited to see what these newly formed teams build at the hackathon!

Yesterday, Coffee & Code Philadelphia completely took over the lounge at The Turkish Brew. ☕️💻

Our Claude Code vs. Codex: Loops, Graphs, and Harnesses meetup drew such a great turnout that we officially outgrew the upstairs space and expanded across the entire lounge area.

We even had a machine learning engineer travel down from New York City to join us—another reminder that Philadelphia’s developer community is becoming a destination for people who genuinely want to build and learn together.

Developers arrived with laptops, repositories, side projects, and plenty of questions. We explored coding-agent loops, reusable harnesses, graph-based workflows, context management, testing, and the practical differences between Claude Code and Codex.

There was no formal presentation—just people building together, comparing approaches, debugging problems, and sharing what actually works.
A huge thank-you to everyone who joined us and to The Turkish Brew for continuing to make room for our rapidly growing community.
We may need an even bigger space next time. 🚀

What a turnout yesterday for Claude Code Philly! 🤖💻

We spent the afternoon at Turkish Brew connecting, coding, sharing ideas, and enjoying authentic Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine.

The room brought together an incredible mix of people:
☕ Business owners
🌎 Climate engineers
🔐 Security engineers
📊 Business analysts
⚙️ Embedded systems engineers
📱 Mobile developers
💻 And builders from across the broader tech community

Some people even traveled all the way from Baltimore just to spend a casual Saturday building with us in Philadelphia!

We met new collaborators, and enjoyed exactly the kind of relaxed weekend energy we want these gatherings to create: laptops open, coffee flowing, great food, and interesting conversations happening throughout the room.

Thank you to everyone who joined us—and to Turkish Brew for hosting us!
We’ll be back for another Claude Code Philly session soon.

There are so many hidden treasures around Philadelphia that you only find by actually living in the city.

Random summer pools tucked between neighborhoods.
Adult softball leagues where half the fun is figuring out how everyone somehow knows each other.

Underground groups of developers quietly meeting up, building weird things, swapping tools, and geeking out over whatever dropped that week.

And maybe my favorite recent development:
A NEW SPRING OF COFFEE SHOPS WITH WIFI, OUTLETS, AND HOURS THAT GO UNTIL MIDNIGHT.

For years, finding a good place to work after 7 PM felt like a side quest.
Now suddenly there are more places where you can grab coffee, open a laptop at 9 PM, and look around to see designers, programmers, students, founders, writers, and people working on things just because they think they're interesting.

And at this point, there are really no excuses for saying you can't find venues or food in Philly.

There are cafés, community spaces, parks, coworking spots, restaurants, bakeries, breweries, rooftops, and random corners of the city everywhere. You just have to actually go look.

The best parts of a city aren't always the things on the tourism websites.
Sometimes it's the pool you didn't know existed.
The softball league someone casually invited you to.

The developer group with 40 people in a basement talking about agents.
Or the coffee shop that's still buzzing at 11:30 PM.

Philadelphia has a lot more going on beneath the surface than people realize.
You just have to wander around enough to find it.

🔥 What a turnout for Claude Code Philly today.

We packed out Turkish Brew for another Coffee & Code Philadelphia build session — developers, founders, students, and AI builders hacking on projects, swapping ideas, and experimenting with Claude Code together.
And one of the best parts: we actually met with the founders of quirq and GalaxyGate right there in the coffee shop.

That made us even more excited for what’s coming next.

quirq and GalaxyGate are sponsoring our September 20 AI Agent Hackathon at Pennovation Works, and it was awesome getting to talk through the event in person while surrounded by the same Philly builder community we’re creating it for.

🏆 $2,000 in cash prizes
🚀 Sponsored by quirq + GalaxyGate

There’s something pretty special about meeting sponsors, founders, and builders in the same coffee shop — then turning those conversations into a hackathon for the whole community.

We’re seriously excited for September 20. 🔥
