What role can creative methods play in societal alignment? Course Leader of the Master Design, Dr. Michelle Kasprzak (@dr.kasprzak), investigated this with her colleagues in the DNA Dialogues consortium, an NWO-funded project now in its final year. In September, the consortium will share how it brought creative and scientific methods together to examine societal alignment on high impact genetic technologies. Emer Beamer's design research project, Designing for Child Civic Participation, uses creative, participatory, and child-centred methods to explore how both adults and children perceive their roles, relationships, and existing power imbalances. In this way, social participation becomes more meaningful and inclusive. Living Without Letters is an experiential board game that explores how deeply public systems depend on written language — and what happens when that ability can no longer be taken for granted. Through visual, audio, and collaborative gameplay, players experience the confusion, dependency, frustration, and uncertainty that many people with low literacy navigate every day. Color is memory. It is ecology. It is reciprocity. Color as a Living System by Sandra Liliana Cueva Cortez explores how color in the Andean landscape holds territorial identity, and what happens when that identity is under pressure. Through textile practice and illustration as research tools, this thesis asks: What dynamics keep color alive in the landscape? How do we weave bridges in the Andes? How do we make what we build today ancestral for future generations? Two years. One territory. Infinite threads.
