Well, I did it! I completed the marathon Alhumdulilah! 26 miles and don’t forget the .2 ok! I keep getting asked how it was and my best response is EMOTIONAL! I have never enjoyed long distance running, I was a sprinter, let’s get there fast and be done lol! But life can’t be fast, you have to take your time. This year has taught me the importance of slowing down, learning what’s important and moving from there. I ran the first three miles with Chrystine and Alex (thank you both) but I wasn’t meant for me to stay with them, I had to race my own race and my own pace. The @runwithrally notes kept me going and some made me cry. At mile 21 my feet started to hurt and I was nervous I wasn’t going to be able to do it but I look up and see my husband walking to me and he grab my hand and ran with me a few seconds lol! I ran about 23 miles by myself but I wasn’t alone because I had Nadiyah, Sade and Rajeeyah there being the best pit crew at multiple miles cheering me on. Because I’m not a true runner, my only goal was to finish before that sweeper truck came lol. I finished in 6:22.32 and I’m not mad at it! Thank you Ikhlas, Chrystine, Melania, Alex and Davian for being my teammates and making feel like I could do this! Can’t say I would do it again but Allah knows best. @chimarathon recap!

If I could describe this weekend in one word it would be E M O T I O N A L!

We flew in Friday night. When I do this marathon again… IM COMING ON THURSDAY!

Saturday was an early start. We did the expo, walked around way too much, and the girls had a sleepover! (After I forgot our pajamas and @qbeyah_12 forgot her gels! And we had to ride back to our hotel twice!)

Sunday was D-Day! Yall I cried so many times! Davian had to start with me because I was a ball of nerves! I love him so much! The energy was electric. And once I started I was relieved! The back of my knee started to hurt at mile 13 and thank God my sister and her husband were my pit crew and came with reinforcements!

I prayed the entire time! I praised God the entire time because I really thought I was not going to finish because of the pain in the back of my knee! My voice messages made me cry! Thank you @chrystinecosby for telling us about @runwithrally (and for gifting me the ability to replay them 🥹)

I finished!!!!!!!!!!!! And it was the best race I’ve ever done! And I’ll DO IT AGAIN! Not injured hopefully! And my toenails are still intact for now!

I was born here in Chicago 43 years ago, so what better place to do a marathon? Tomorrow will rebirth a new purpose, goal and focus! I’m doing this for Kaiyah. All she wanted to do was get out of her hospital bed and run! Well Kaiyah I’m running 26.2 for you 😘 by @qbeyah_12

21 years of watching you become “that girl” has been quite amazing! From your considerate and calm nature to your humor, and not to mention your beauty. I love everything about you Jo. It is funny how times flies when you are having fun but I do mourn the old days. The days when you danced in the kitchen while your daddy made dinner. And the times we had in the car dancing to get hyped for your gymnastics meets. However, I have to admit that I have enjoyed my view as your mother. A senior in college and my favorite Delta of course. I look forward to seeing what more Allah has in store for you baby. Love always your biggest fan, your gworl, MAMA😘 by @qbeyah_12

Your birthday was something that meant so much to you. Everyday at 9:14 you would say it was your birthday so I find myself saying it’s your birthday at 9:14 everyday lol. So here I am on 9/14/26 on your birthday and you aren’t here physically for us to celebrate. I was there for 42 birthdays. I can honestly say that I haven’t been the same Qadara since April. I feel lost, like a piece of me is missing. Our parents look different and it’s because you aren’t here and it’s understandable. You were such a light in their lives and it has been dim ever since you left us. The Beyah/Ziyad siblings are missing a link Kaiyah. We haven’t been able to take another sibling picture without you. As I reflect on your last days, it became difficult for you, were unable to speak. However the very last words you clearly said to me was “is there anything that I can do to overcome this” and I said no baby, you laid back submitted to the will of Allah subhanallah! In that moment you showed me what strength looked like and what is truly meant to be a God-fearing Muslim.

Kaiyah I miss you so much but I’m truly blessed that I get to see you everyday when I look at Zainah. She is you in every way. She is kind, patient, motherly, extremely neat and not to mention looks exactly like you. Aleem is gentle and has your sense of humor. Azizah has her own business and makes things happen for not only her and her daughter but for her siblings. This is all YOU! Zari will be one soon and she’s walking. I promise she will know you, we will tell her all of the stories about her Kaiyma and how much you loved her.

I often find myself questioning if I’m doing the right things for them like we talked about years ago before illness was even an issue. I promise I’m trying my best, both Masud and I are. We are no longer a family of 5, we are party of 9 and loving every part of it! It took some creativity to make things shake and I’m loving it here. Your children have easily become my own Alhumdulilah! We talk about you daily, there’s always a saying of yours or a ritual of yours that’s performed with a smile or even laughter. We all have had dreams of you in Africa smiling looking beautiful! by @qbeyah_12

To those who talked me into this... you know who you are! 😂 But in all seriousness, I am honored to tackle 26.2 miles for such a meaningful cause.
When a child is in the hospital, families need a warm place to stay without worrying about hotel bills or meals. My goal is to raise $2,200 to make sure these families have the support they need during the toughest moments of their lives.
