i was totally going to post something for earth day but i totally forgot...HOWEVER! every day is earth day when youre surrounded by amazing life from the steepest mountain to the deepest sea trench! ( ✌︎'ω')✌︎

the opalescent nudibranch is definitely one of the coolest earthlings i can think of. i never get tired of seeing these stunning slugs. this one was such a deep orange-red!

being alone at the beach at night felt like i was in a first-person survival horror game, but it was worth it to see this slug

i became a certified California naturalist! 🐌

this fall, i had the privilege to learn in-depth about the unique ecology of California through classroom and field experience, problem-solving, communication training and community service.

it was incredibly rewarding to be able to participate in this program, and i met so many amazing people who have inspired me to become a better communicator and worthy advocate for California's natural history ^_^ by @qingpng

the wonderful doto urak!! ⊹ ࣪ ˖
i'm really happy with how this picture turned out. these slugs feel so magical, with their soft pink cerata (the projections on their back) looking like little bunches of grapes

the first sea hare i've ever seen!! the California sea hare (Aplysia californica) is a massive sea slug found along the Pacific coast of California to Baja California, Mexico.

they get their beautiful color from eating red algae, which allows them to engage in a defensive behavior called "phagomimicry," in which they excrete a cloud of ink and chemicals that mimics food.
this gives them a chance to escape from predators!

i feel so happy to have seen one of these giant, adorable slugs. i think i laid on the dock watching this one for about an hour- it might be my new favorite animal ^_^

my first spanish shawl (Flabellinopsis iodinea)! 🧡

these slugs look absolutely unreal. their vibrant colors remind me of halloween, which fits the #docktober theme perfectly!

a visual i made for my oceanography class- trying to incorporate scientific illustration with diagram layouts!

it was interesting to learn how researchers are able to "resurrect" strains of diatoms from the past!

i feel like it's very fitting with halloween coming up, especially with this particular species literally having "skeleton" in its name.

a bright green fluffy sculpin (Oligocottus snyderi) 💚

these are stunning fish. i learned recently that their bodies are smooth, and lack scales! they have some pretty crazy color variation, but this year i seem to be finding a lot of bright green ones
