Juan José Heredia's show, "Ojalá," opens July 11, 2026 at Dále Zine.

Juan José Heredia is a contemporary artist best known for figurative paintings rendered in a personal, idiosyncratic visual language. Born in 1982 in Miami, Florida, the artist is largely self-taught. Often working outdoors in nature or within neighborhoods, Heredia uses unprimed and unstretched fabric to transport both himself and his paintings into different spaces, symbolizing mobility, migration, and what it means to imagine a new world. His work often references the aesthetics and techniques of Expressionism, as well as painters such as Kai Althoff, Marc Chagall, and Gustav Klimt.

In addition to his two-dimensional work, Heredia also explores assemblage, journalistic collage, and bookmaking, while maintaining a daily drawing practice. His work has been exhibited in Brooklyn, New York, and Munich, Germany.

He works between New York and Miami.

We love working with our friends and this season we got to collaborate on not one but three pieces with our very dear and talented friend @que_vz . Based in New York but currently living and working in Miami, Juan is an incredible painter and true artist in every sense of the word. He’s also an amazing surfer and is beloved by everyone here in the New York/Rockaway surf scene.

We worked closely with Juan and, together, went through his journals and sketchbooks spanning the last 10 years or so to create a vibrant collage of scanned pages that include everything from drawings and magazine cutouts to found string and fruit stickers. Printed on 12 oz brushed bull denim, we used this printed denim to make a jean cut trouser, a baggy jean cut short and a utility tote. We are blessed to know Juan and are incredibly grateful to him for sharing his artwork with us for this collection. Thank you, Juan! by @que_vz
