Homegirls in Paris 🇫🇷🕶️🌹

Inspired by my longtime friends and family—@homies.artist @homiegirl.beauty @lamatadora.art—and the OG Homie Girls themselves.

Originally published in Lowrider Magazine in 1978, Homies became an iconic toy line repping Chicano culture. Today, the legacy lives on.

This is my take on that classic Chicana street style, reimagined through a high-fashion lens.

Can I be honest for a second? Sometimes, I can just feel the anxiety building sitting in front of this thing. The moment I sit down. Why? Because I’m a p e r f e c t i o n i s t ✨. That’s why.

But the truth is that the need for perfection can keep you from even trying. And that’s where I often get stuck.

We see the pretty parts, the end product. All polished and instagram ready. But the process? Not so glamorous. It’s messy and frustrating. That’s the part we tend to hide. And honestly, that’s not just true about art or design; it’s true about life. ❤️‍🩹

The creative process is just like the journey toward pursuing our dreams—it starts with excitement and grand ideas, but it’s often met with setbacks, curveballs, and moments of doubt. Sometimes, we’re even tempted to settle for the bare minimum, because it feels easier.

Our words are powerful, so we should be careful with what we say to ourselves. But it’s not always easy. Some days I’m discouraged. You know the lies: “You’re not good enough,” “You’ll never be xyz,” “It’s too late,” blah blah blah.

But then I look back, and I can see all the times I didn’t think I’d make it through, but I did. God always made a way. And in His timing, He promises to make everything beautiful.

I don’t always get it right, but each time I’m reminded of this, I’m recentered again. ⚖️🤍🕊️
