Wow Luvs. Tuesday night @dapoetrylounge_co 's weekly Open Mic was an ENTIRE vibe! It was their women and femmes night, the last one of the year. So grateful to have caught it!

The hosts (@jrwilliams33 & @yesikastarr) were phenomenal and curated a vibe I will never forget! I will do my best to make it weekly.

CONTROL IS NOT LOVE.

Let's stop romanticizing behaviors that restrict another person's freedom.

Jealousy is not proof of devotion.

Monitoring someone's phone is not intimacy.

Isolation is not protection.

Financial control is not partnership.

Punishing someone for setting boundaries is not love.

And making someone afraid to disagree with you is not a sign of a strong relationship.

Love does not require you to surrender your autonomy.

Healthy relationships allow room for boundaries, independence, privacy, disagreement, and individual identity.

Abuse is not always physical. Sometimes control becomes so normalized that you start questioning whether you're asking for too much simply by wanting to make your own decisions.

You're not property. You're not someone's possession. And you do not owe anyone unlimited access to yourself just because you're in a relationship.

If you have to keep abandoning yourself to keep someone else, it's time to pay attention to what that relationship is costing you.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Let's talk about the patterns that deserve to be recognized, not romanticized.

WOMEN ARE UP AGAINST ENOUGH. WE DON’T NEED TO BE ANOTHER OBSTACLE IN EACH OTHER’S LIVES. ✨

Sometimes, another woman’s confidence, success, or presence can bring up feelings we haven’t fully explored within ourselves. And that’s human. But we have a choice in how we respond.

Before we turn another woman into the enemy, let’s pause and consider whether we’re seeing her clearly or through the lens of our own insecurities.

HER LIGHT DOESN’T DIM YOURS. HER SUCCESS DOESN’T THREATEN YOURS. THERE IS ROOM FOR ALL OF US TO SHINE.

The world already gives women enough reasons to fight for our place. Imagine what could happen if we spent less energy competing with one another and more energy creating space for each other to thrive. 💜

🔊 LA! I was selected as one of ten poet contestants to compete in a friendly slam competition at this event put on by The International Society of Black Latinos sponsored by @telemundo this Sunday the 18th from 3 pm to 7 pm!

I have never slammed before so come cheer me on! It's going to be a great time with a dance party at the end. The ticket link is in my bio and all money raised goes towards scholarships for students and community workshops. by @queensublimeluv

Some battles don’t leave visible scars. Some haunt you from the inside. 💜

A Haunting is for those of us living with mental illness, fighting battles the world may never fully understand.

As someone who has lived with mental illness since adolescence, this poem comes from a place deeper than performance. It’s a piece of my truth.

What if the very things you’ve been chasing to prove your progress are the same things keeping you disconnected from who you truly are?

The new measure of success isn’t status. It’s coherence.

It’s when your identity aligns with your lifestyle. When your actions reflect your values. When what you create carries the weight of what you believe.

When you no longer have to perform a version of yourself that looks successful but feels empty.
Because eventually, the titles fade. The applause quiets. The validation runs out.

And what remains is the truth of how you lived, what you stood for, and who you became when nobody was watching.

Stop building a life that looks right to everyone else while feeling wrong to you.

Build a life that sounds like your soul, reflects your convictions, and honors the person you were created to be.

That’s not just progress. That’s alignment. That’s integrity. That’s freedom.

The goal isn’t to look like you’ve made it. The goal is to become someone whose life speaks for itself.

ABUSE DOESN’T ALWAYS LOOK LIKE VIOLENCE.

That’s part of why it can be so difficult to recognize.

Domestic abuse can involve power, control, coercion, intimidation, isolation, manipulation, and emotional or psychological harm long before physical violence happens.

It can look like controlling your money, monitoring your phone, isolating you, humiliating you, questioning your reality, violating your boundaries, or using fear to control your choices.

And sometimes, it gets disguised as love:

“I’m protecting you.”
“If you loved me, you would…”

But love doesn't require you to surrender your autonomy.

Abuse doesn't always leave a bruise. Sometimes it leaves you questioning yourself.

And that deserves to be talked about.

YOU ARE NOT TOO LATE!

You are not behind.
You are not too old.
You did not miss your window.
You are allowed to change your mind.

Change careers.
Change cities.
Change relationships.
Change direction.
Change everything.

Sometimes the life you thought you were supposed to live has to fall apart so you can finally build the life that actually fits your soul.

Stop letting timelines designed by other people convince you that your life has an expiration date.
There is still time.

And if something inside you keeps whispering, “I’m meant for more than this,” listen.

That voice isn't asking you to panic.
It's asking you to pay attention.

Your next chapter does not need to make sense to everybody.

It just needs to be true for you. 💜
