Hi, I’m Meng (pronounced like the fruit Mango with the ā€œgoā€ part) and I have been birding for 13 years, but unofficially since I was a child. The first bird I can remember stood about 25 inches tall and came in various breeds such as Dominque, New Hampshire Red and Thai Game. Yes, I grew up with chickens. They were a source of food, as well as connection to my culture.

Fast forward to when I was 24, I participated in a birding survey on the Colorado River and was mesmerized by the common gallinule. Their red billed with a yellow tip, contrasted with their charcoal feathers. Since then, I have been fascinated with waterfowl.

I’m exited to expand our flock and can’t wait to bird with you at our next event.

Hi I’m Jeff Buckingham! My favorite bird is the great blue heron - so majestic. I grew up in the woods of Seattle making forts in thorny blackberry bushes, which quickly prompted my passion to study wildlife biology in Portland with catholic nuns. In SE Oregon, I hid under burlap sacks at 4am to listen for Eastern Kingbirds - who’s calls were effectively washed out by the loud hum of mosquitoes. I used mist nets and metal poles all over the PNW to catch and band songbirds in lightning storms. I also caught frogs in the rain and mud to transport them across a dangerous highway.

Now I teach high school students the joys of nature from the comfort of a classroom without AC during 90 degree heat waves.

I love birds, I love queers, and can’t wait to get to know you better!
