4 beers down. I look around.
I close my eyes and from 2026 we are in 2007/2008.
I go to Director's Gourmet a lot. The dim warm lights of the bar, getting a cold Original reading Watchmen while I listen to music.
While I wait for my turn to go to the the washroom, I'd read the monologue from the beginning of Trainspotting. One of the posters they had hanging was a signed poster of Volver.
Adriana never gets me, and she is awesome. The toughest lady I have ever met.
She'd call me out on being a person with earphones and graphic novel at a bar. On a Sunday evening, she asked me if I knew anyone that needed work. I volunteered. Credit card bills.
At that time, I already had a full time job and was on my third year of my Bachelor's. So I also decided to take a bar gig while doing all of that - obviously.
The bar didn't take cards at the time, so I had to keep an eye out for people who were trying to leave without paying the bill. I had never stood up to anything or anyone, and the first time she told me to stop someone, it was a moment of change. It was my first night.
We had some gringos that night, they tipped me. I loved gringos.
The night went on and the bar closed. At 4 am, I went into the washroom to clean it. I'd put earphones on and Adriana would say she couldn't understand how after a while night of music I'd put my earphones on. Lol to 2026's neurospicy lingo
When I left after my first shift, some guys asked if I wanted to go to the corner of Peixoto Gomide to the boteco. I did.
We talked until it was time I got ready to head back into the office at 9AM for my corporate job.
Nothing will ever compare to the sense of wonder of saying Yes. The look of Augusta while the sun rises. The buzz of Barra Funda in the morning. by @queeriousleo

It's hard to find words after being so close to someone you admire.
I lost my voice from jumping, singing, yelling and crying so much.
"Which Witch" being on the setlist made it all even more perfect.
And it's refreshing to see an artist asking people to put their phones away so they can be present and dance when the time for Dog Days Are Over came.
"Seven Devils" and all Ceremonials songs were excellent - though Never Let me Go was not part of it.
I'm still elated, and I won't forget last night ever.
I need to find videos of when she came to say hi.
Thank you @florence @florenceandthemachine

13 years ago we met one day in August. 3 years ago we got married. There's been so much growth, so much love, so many adventures, and so much binge-watching 🤣. Thank you for being the best partner in life I could have asked for, and here's to many more years to come. by @queeriousleo

Working on your communication style requires vulnerability, awareness, and, most importantly, self-compassion. It is not an easy journey, so it is important that you have someone to guide you. At Second Nature English, I help speakers of other languages build their "English-self" with guided role-playing, inner speech training, and phonemic awareness - all of the tools you need to take control of your communication and achieve the success you are looking for. taken in Toronto, Ontario by @queeriousleo

The birthday and Pride celebrations were epic this year! Old and new friends celebrating life and each other, amazing gatherings, and a lot of good music! To everyone that reached out on my birthday, and that spent time celebrating with me either close or afar, THANK YOU! Feeling loved and cherished has never been more necessary, and I felt it all! And, of course, thank you to the best partner in life @ryantoll ❤️

And all the love to my family who has experienced a huge loss recently, my love is with you, I miss you!

And my forever thanks to @mikeycharettetattoos , the talented artist that brought to fruition a long dreamed tattoo! If you haven't yet and are looking for an artist in Toronto, I would 1000% recommend having a tattoo done with him. His incredible knowledge and experience shows in his attention to detail, his care in the tattoo process, and just creating something that is beyond what I had first envisioned. Thanks, Mikey!

Thanks, everyone! Getting closer to the big 40!! taken in Toronto, Ontario by @queeriousleo

Nostalgia is a funny feeling. I look at some of these photos and my mind is transported back to those late teens and early twenties days. To think about all that has happened since then, to know that a lot of people from those times are still in my life (despite all that life has put between us), it is all very humbling.

For some reason, the anniversary of moving to Canada is hitting harder this year. I guess 13 years have given me more perspective of the immigrant experience, how difficult it is to start from zero, to make and keep new friends, how much humble pie I had to eat every time I took another internship, how much all that I thought about myself and the world changed. The people who look down on you based on the colour of your skin - even if it's a subconscious bias -, the people who abuse your work ethics because you are an immigrant, all of these experiences brought me to breaking points from which I did not think I would recover.

And even after countless days seeking healing, some of them bed ridden, I found the resilience to continue. And one of the reasons was that I remembered that I was not alone.

First of all, the greatest thank you to my husband, partner in crime, friend, companion @ryantoll . And to all my friends, close or far, thank you for being and staying in my life. The journey continues, and the fact we are together makes it all worth it. I love you all! by @queeriousleo
