This fantastic four sat down on Saturday to discuss all things LGBTQ+ representation on TV. 📺

It’s a conversation made all the more pertinent by the news that the BBC has dropped Drag Race UK.

For queer people, television is more than just entertainment. It can be a place to escape, to find ourselves, and to identify with characters and stories that make us feel seen.

Writer and TV and film creator Jamie Windust spoke to former The Traitors contestant Amanda Collier, Channel 4’s Tip Toe star Shakeel Kimotho, and TV critic and author of Out Now, Scott Bryan, about how television shapes us and why representation matters.

And if you’re quick, @gaysthewordbookshop might have some signed copies of Out Now available 👀 taken in 21Soho by @queermindsfestival

We loved hearing readings from Jenny Chamarette, Dylin Hardcastle and Joe Conroy at Queer Minds 2026. 🏳️‍🌈📚

Jenny’s book, Q is for Garden, offers a bold and tender exploration of how queerness and nature entwine.

Award-winning author Dylin Hardcastle treated us to an extract from his latest novel, A Language of Limbs, hailed as “an instant queer classic”.

And we heard firsthand why new queer writer Joe Conroy has been heralded by critics as “wildly talented”. His reading from debut novel In Out had the room in stitches. The book is available to preorder now.

The dynamic duo Tstarnay and Dean Atta 🎤

Multi-award-winning poet, screenwriter and author, Dean Atta, who collected a BAFTA earlier this year, was in conversation with spoken word artist and assistant head teacher, Tstarnay, about his debut adult novel, Big Man.

The book explores themes of identity, aging, sex, family, and trauma, turning a lens on what it means to age as a queer person.

Big Man was so popular we sold out of copies at Queer Minds! But don’t worry - you can still pick up a copy from @gaysthewordbookshop, where Dean will be heading soon to sign some. 📚 taken in 21Soho by @queermindsfestival

Co-founder of @campmargate, Jesse du Preez, sat down with journalist, Ewan Murrie, to share their experience of what it takes to operate a queer venue, why they matter, and what needs to change to help them survive.

We heard how CAMP was forced to close its doors, and how the venue brought hope to the queer community of Margate.

CAMP was never just a bar, it was a community hub - closing it meant more than the loss of jobs, it meant the loss of a space for people to be themselves.

Thank you, Jesse for sharing your story, and the story of CAMP. taken in 21Soho by @queermindsfestival

🚨 SPEAKER ALERT 🚨

We’re so excited to welcome Shakeel Kimotho to the Queer Minds 2026 line up.

Recently starring as Hanna in Channel 4’s LGBTQ+ drama Tip Toe, Shakeel joins Amanda Collier, Jamie Windust and Scott Bryan for our My TV made me gay panel.

From the shows that shaped us to the characters we saw ourselves in, we’ll be talking about the queer TV moments that stay with us, change us and, occasionally, make us realise rather a lot about ourselves.
