🌟SHORT ANNOUNCEMENT🌟 Gigi (2024) - Cynthia Calvi The last but definitely not the least to be announced! From the tormented little mermaid to the fulfilled woman she is today, Gigi tells us about her gender transition with humor and sensitivity. A heartfelt animation that feeds our souls and bodies with color, light, warmth, and love, while reminding us that there are more identities and stars in the sky than grains of sand on Earth. Cynthia Calvi was born in Menton, in the south of France. At the age of 17, she moved to Paris to immerse herself in the world of animated film. After studying at EMCA in Angoulême, where she directed her first animated documentary, Tournée"(2015), she joined the "En sortant de l'école" collection in Lille, culminating in the short film "Le portrait modèle" (2018). She then joined the management team at Train-train studio, which helped make "Gigi"(2023), produced by Xbo Films, in collaboration with Studio des Affranchis in Toulouse. This is a movie you don't want to miss! Come by tomorrow on the 23rd of April to watch this short among a series of great films and also to hear the perspectives of our panel! See you tomorrow!🌈🌈 by @queeronscreen_event
🌟MODERATOR ANNOUNCEMENT!🌟 Lobke Neienhuijsen Hiii! I’m Lobke (she/her), and I will be the panel host on the 23rd of April! I studied Media and Culture at Utrecht University and I’m interested in the (underlying) contexts of different types of art (it can be anything: film, music, dancing, painting, etc.). One of my biggest interests is film. During my studies, I did multiple forms of media-/art research. Think of cinematographic-, textual-, discourse-, framing-, or content research. I wrote my bachelor’s thesis about the intimacy coördinator: a relatively new position in the film and television world that protects the rights of actors and extras. For this thesis, I compared two documentaries from completely different (geographical) contexts. At the moment, I curate art and film exhibitions. Whenever I’m looking for new works or artists to exhibit, besides the visual aesthetics, I also factor in the situated knowledges, background, personalities, and gender of the artist in question. I think that fair representation is very important in the art world, and within our society as a whole. Regarding the film programming, I sometimes show 70’s/80’s/90’s blockbusters, but most of the time I show arthouse movies that are a little less known and talked about. I try to bring light to not-so-talked-about subjects. During a viewing I’ll give some perspectives and notable features that spectators can pay extra attention to while watching, and afterwards I love to start dialogue. We are SO excited to have Lobke on board! Hope to see you all on the 23rd!!! by @queeronscreen_event
🌟PANELIST ANNOUNCEMENT 🌟 Octavie Ide Though grounded in a more analysis-heavy background — with a.o. research into lesbian authorship and representation in film, @octavieide (she/they, 1999) focuses on how cinema connects with audiences today: through community-driven approaches, led by curiosity and aesthetics often found in online (pop) culture. She is the founder of @bonom.studio, a PR and marketing agency developing talent-driven campaigns and audience strategies for the cultural sector and creative industries across Belgium and The Netherlands, specialized in film. Alongside this, she works as a creative writer, curator and content creator. She was an ambassador for the 2026 edition of @iffr. With the introduction of Octavie, we have introduced you to our wonderful panel! Stay tuned to find out who our moderator is going to be! On April 24, we’ll screen the feature-length absurd queer musical drama: Queens of Drama (2024) by director Alexis Langlois in @villa_concordia! This outrageous lesbian pop musical satire is inspired by the pop frenzy of the early 2000s, and charts the rise and fall of new star Mimi Madamour and her passionate, rage-fueled love affair with punk icon Billie Kohler. Over the course of half a century we follow these drama queens as they top the charts and set sail on the course of mad queer love. 💥🎤 Bonus: Before Queens of Drama we will watch the dark comedy short Gender Reveal (2024) by Mo Matton @mo.filmms! This screening is part of the 2 days event Queer on Screen – Visual Representation in Film. Check @queeronscreen_event for the whole program, packed with incredible speakers and dedicated time for you to connect with fellow makers, movie loves and members of the community. 💙 🎟 Tickets: desienfilm.nl
📍 Note: this screening takes place at Villa Concordia (Concordiastraat 67A) by @queeronscreen_event
