Join abolitionist organizers across New York City for the fifth annual Abolition Block Party on Saturday, September 12, 1–6pm, in Crown Heights’ Brower Park! As always, there will be free food, music, performances, workshops, and more. Masks will be provided and required.

This year’s theme, “Attica is Everywhere: From Crown Heights to the Golan Heights, All the Walls Must Fall!” commemorates the Attica Prison uprising (September 9, 1971) and the Gilboa Prison break (September 6, 2021), in which six Palestinian prisoners dug their way to temporary freedom using spoons.

In the face of intensifying state repression, we draw courage from people who steadfastly resist their captivity, whether in the open-air prison of Gaza or the concentration camps of Amerikkka. In the face of draconian “terrorism” and “conspiracy” charges leveled against our antifascist comrades, we refuse to retreat.

Here in New York City, our “affordability” mayor has repudiated defunding the NYPD, while the city hemorrhages billions on four skyscraper jails. Also looming: the demolition of public housing and the construction of casinos on public parkland. Right here, right now, we must unite against any enclosure of the commons — borders, prison walls, private extraction — both near and far.

Participants include: @survivepunishny, @criticalresistance, @bkjailsupport, @nobrooklynjail, @courtwatchnyc, @anotherworldbk, @chcarecollective, and @aad.nyc. More to come!
