ALMOST A COWBOY.
On show at JACKPOT in Marseille by @erratum_projects
Mixed media, ceramic, textile

A clumsy cowboy caught between macho bravado and the fantasy of success: an empty male avatar built from Western absurdity and failed ambition.

JACKPOT 🎰❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who was there and everyone who made this exhibition possible - all the artists, hosts, visitors, friends, collaborators, supporters, and everyone who came to see, celebrate, help, install, party and experience JACKPOT with us in Marseille.

What an intense and beautiful adventure. I’m still processing everything we did together, but I already feel incredibly grateful and proud of this group and of what we managed to create.

I’ll be starting to share the exhibition documentation by @viktor_nikishov_ very soon 📸

More to come!

Bisous,

A LITTLE MORE THAN A WEEK UNTIL JACKPOT — AND IT’S TIME TO INTRODUCE THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT. 🎰

JACKPOT is an artist-led exhibition organised by ERRATUM Projects, initiated and curated by Katya Quel @quelish , artist and curator whose practice focuses on building new worlds, drawing from post-internet aesthetics, fantasy, contemporary myths and modern fables.

Can’t wait to see you!

One more thing — 26 August is Katya’s birthday, so naturally, the timing feels right. Come to Marseille, see JACKPOT, and let’s celebrate together. 🥂🎰

JACKPOT
Art-O-Rama Off @artorama_marseille
27–31 August 2026
Maison de la Société des Architectes
130 Avenue du Prado, Marseille

VIP Preview — 27 August
Public Opening — 28 August, 19:00–00:00

Lara Rocho @rhodeeo — Exhibition Coordinator
Lara Rocho’s artistic practice explores themes of intimacy and identity, loneliness and obsession, attraction and repulsion. Her work is rooted in the interplay of textile and tactile structures, materials, and fragments, intertwined with narrative and nostalgic moments that blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy.

The exhibition is made possible by a small team working behind the scenes:

Katya Quel @quelish — Artist & Curator
Lara Rocho @rhodeeo — Exhibition Coordinator
André Baierl @fakonde8 — Production
Virgile Bettan @virgile_bettan — Production, Beverage & Transport Support

We are extremely grateful to Maison de la Société des Architectes @societe_des_architectes for giving us the space to bring this project to life.

And to everyone coming to Marseille: we can’t wait to see you. taken in Marseille, France by @quelish

‘The Sun Is Always Softly Baking In Our Sweet Land’
(Acrylic paint, airbrush)

Throwback to my solo show ‘Milky Rivers, Jelly Banks: The Land of Cockaigne’ at @number1mainroad in 2024.

Never posted this wall painting. Since it was painted directly onto the wall, it’s forever gone - but today I was thinking about it and decided to give it another momentum :)

The Land of Cockaigne is a medieval dream of abundance: a mystical place where houses are made of sugar, streets are paved with pastry, and everything is available for free. In the exhibition, this fantasy becomes a pink, acid-rained mini-utopia — a place of excessive pleasure, seductive illusions, endless consumption, intoxication, winnings and sweet escapes.

Inspired by the 13th-century French poem ‘The Land of Cockaigne’ and its Russian folklore counterpart, ‘The Kingdom of Milk Rivers and Jelly Shores’, the exhibition played with our contemporary fantasies of abundance and luxury — when we already have everything, yet are constantly seduced into wanting more.

A little lost piece of Cockaigne, resurfacing from 2024 taken in Number 1 Main Road by @quelish

Thanks a lot to @time____stamp , who visited my studio for the interview, and thanks to everyone who watched my artist interview! I’ve received so much lovely feedback from all around the world, and I’m very touched!

Keep up the great work, everyone. Here is a little guy that I painted during the interview. He became a witness. He’s still hanging in my studio in Paris, and you are all welcome to visit. 🌞🫶🏻 taken in Paris 11eme by @quelish

This piece is called “Perestroika Elf Girl.” It was the first painting I made in my new studio in Paris on Avenue de la République. The painting portrays an elfin girl during the Perestroika era—after working at a Soviet factory, she’s drinking Coca-Cola, like many who wanted a taste of America. She’s a bit of a hippie, waiting for freedom, and at that time Coke felt cooler than beer. There’s a toxic rain falling, and the sky is a swirl of colors. Her expression is ambiguous—whether she’s happy, thoughtful, or a bit sarcastic is hard to tell. The whole scene, with its surreal rain and multicolored sky, hints that we’re looking back from the future—uncertain whether those changes led to something positive or negative. taken in Paris 11eme by @quelish
